I dunno about you guys but history classes and textbooks always bored the hell out of me and my retention was generally nothing.

But seeing the real artifacts in museums was a lot better. I remember that stuff a lot better.
Statues made in the 1960s aren't artifacts.

By all means have museums have old documents, weapons, uniforms, flags, etc. You can even have a statue/model or two of relevant Confederate people. But that doesn't mean every General Lee statue made to intimidate black people because they can now use the same bathrooms deserves to be displayed. Maybe just save a couple of those to use as example of bullshit racial intimidation tactics. Maybe even in those exact words to describe them.

Melt them down to turn them into statues of Sonic the Hedgehog from the first movie trailer, but dress him like a Confederate soldier, then dump the new statues in the river.

the statues weren't constructed to educate people. they were constructed to glorify their subjects

This

the only thing that gives these statues any historical significance is the damage and defacement to them by the current civil rights movement

they do not deserve to be restored and in their original state they were just ugly monuments to shitty values

Yeah they are. Artifacts from the 1960s, of a society that decided to make statues to intimidate black people because they could then use the same bathrooms.

Literally exactly the kind of thing that belongs in a civil rights museum.

If we preserved everything that ever existed because it's an artifact, then the entire planet would just be a warehouse. How many Robert E Lee statues and Confederate flags do you possibly need in a museum to make a point?

A civil rights museum needs like 3 of those tops. The rest can be gladly broken, melted down, shot into the sun, etc.

People say bad things happened on Earth before this year, but there isn't a lot of statue evidence to back up the existence of these bad people.

Do you want to force museums to take on a bunch of shitty statues just to appease a bunch of racists?

not all art belongs in a museum. to use a completely random example: art that was made during the civil rights movement, explicitly for the purpose of glorifying confederate leaders and intimidating black people, should probably not be on display anywhere unless it it properly contextualized. and even then, it's not necessary to have these statues in large numbers
