Yeah but the shitshow was half the fun

call of duty is another fine example of this; you balance it, it stops being fun. 4 thru Black Ops was the series peak because the balancing of those games was this bumblefuck nightmare of incompetence.

it's this weird mentality of "if there's an equal number of each class, this team is balanced and therefore fine" even though there are so many fun alternative setups you can use

Role queue is a fucking nightmare when you have Tank players who don't press W, or Supports (Moira) that think they're Flankers. Mid Masters was always shitty, but now its even worse since you can no longer compensate for boosted fucks by flexing. <_<

Oh yeah I agree. I had no problem with it the way it was. Its the main reason I didnt even really bother with Comp. I had much more fun in Quickplay and Arcade.

Singlehandedly ruined the game for me. I used to play almost every day for years. Was my personally favorite competitive game. Then they added role queue, and the game became so not fun and I quit immediately after a few games. Gave it a few more chances, but its still so bad. Its their right to go that direction, but you wont find me playing it anymore unless it is removed.

the complaints and requests, like many, came from random angry players who thought they knew better than they did

several teams in the league were popular specifically because they used cool unusual setups

classic competitive and classic quick play both exist
just don't play the role queue modes if you don't want role queue

none of the other modes have role queue

I always play in the arcade with the classic queue. Sucks now that ranked is impossible though. I just won't pick one role because then I can't switch characters and I feel stuck.
