I used to be comically skinny but in mid 2015 I got put on bi polar meds and I gained weight. I am actually skinnier now than I have been in the past. I've been trying my best to diet and manage my weight but it's just so hard. I gain weight so much faster than most people. Anyone ever beat the system? What is a good way to lose weight when you are on a medication that basically makes you gain weight no matter what?

Are you sure its the medicine? What if you're just getting older?

Not sure what type of medication youre on or what pathways it takes, but generally in these situations you should find something else.

Id hazard a guess that your TSH (and perhaps a few other hormones) is completely fucked.

I was literally skinny as hell and then JUST as I got put on that medication I gained a bunch of weight in months. I was 21 at the time and weight gain is a side effect of the drug.

Pretty much all bi polar medications have weight gain as a side effect, changing meds wouldn't really do anything besides potentially make me insane.

Whats the class of medication, like an SSRI? Im aware theres potential weight gain...

like said not sure how it acts, pathways and feedback loops it takes exactly, but theres something that caused you to pack on pounds of fat in a few month when you were skin and bones before it sounds like..

my shot in the dark guess is yoir TSH is basically zero (your thyroid hormones..). Could ask your doctor for blood work to be sure.

but yeah its basically mission impossible if your hormone panel is fucked and 2000cals a day packs on fat.

Mood stabilizers and anti psychotics. My blood work is usually fine. One time my liver enzymes were kinda high but I had been drinking a lot during that period of my life.
