This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

I think Demitri and Sparkster are both Low Fodder with cases for Mid Fodder (Demitri more so than Sparkter). Bucky is more clearly Mid Fodder.

If Demitri ever appeared in Marvel vs. Capcom, I think he would easily be Mid Fodder. His main crossover appearances are in the Project X Zone games, which probably aren't going to be worth much. Recognition with hardcore Capcom fans could still be enough to give him a little strength, as Darkstalkers fans pretty much universally love him.

Sparkster's in great games and has a cute design, but those great games he's in are just too old and obscure for even us. In some ways he strikes me as a Japanese Earthworm Jim: loved by pretty much everyone who does remember him, otherwise an unknown.

Bucky has prominent roles in enough movies and a (probably worthless, because it's Infinite) Marvel vs. Capcom appearance to push him into Mid Fodder in my opinion.

yeah I'll agree with Low Fodder for Demitri and Sparkster and Mid for Bucky.

Demitri may have been the "true" protagonist of Darkstalkers, but that fact doesn't matter much when the series is effectively dead. Plus he'll have a hard time standing out design-wise, comparatively to other DS characters.

Sparkster can probably find some support, but he hasn't had a game in 10 years so it's a bit of a tall order to make mid.

Bucky I don't think is especially strong Mid Fodder, but his namesake movie was received well and I haven't heard a bad word against the guy. And he'll likely stay relevant in the next phase of MCU.

Demitri Maximoff (Darkstalkers) - Low fodder

if he ever gets into a well-received MvC game, maybe he can do something but even then fighting games didnt exactly impress last contest. In general I feel like people remember Morrigan and sorta Felicia but dont care at all about Darkstalkers itself or its characters who dont have TJF.

Sparkster (Rocket Knight Adventures) - low fodder

His games are too cult and too Genesis, both in terms of console and game length. Just replayed RKA and it was great though. Shoulda been on the Genesis Mini.

Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Marvel) - mid fodder

ive got some doubts but he has a little going for him so sure, mid fodder. At least the movie named after him was actually good!

before I forget to do this, nominate Donald Trump for re-ranking. He was rated quite a while ago when there was still a real threat of him being rallied but I don't think there's any chance of that happening as of 2020. And I can no longer see him being voted for on Gfaqs even as a joke, so Low Fodder is probably off the table.
