This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

I'm not familiar with Data and have no idea at all on Trump, but

Layton himself is really bad (ok I apparently overvalued how bad he was. He avoided getting doubled by Barret in 2013!) and he's bound to be much worse now, as he hasn't been relevant in years. Don is going to be so much worse. LAW for sure.

Chop Chop I think has enough nostalgic / meme value to stay at Low Fodder level

LAW Fodder for Chop Chop - based on Parappa's previous performances, I have a hard time believing Gfaqs cares about the series at all. Rhythm games aren't really this site's thing with the sole exception of Theatrhythm.

Don Paolo should be solid Low Fodder since he's the villain in multiple Professor Layton games, and Layton himself actually did not do badly against Barret in CB9.

I think Data will be Mid Fodder - he was a big part of the ST Next Generation series and recently appeared in the Picard web series. I know next to nothing about Star Trek but it seems like Data is pretty popular.

Trump was first ranked a while ago - most of us agreed on low fodder for him with the exception of a few trumpers who popped into the topic. Nowadays, I think the vast majority of voters would not be able to bring themselves to vote for him, even as a joke in a character battle. I'm sure that there are still a few rabid Trumpers hanging around the politics topic (not that I would ever check that), but I think even they would realize how futile it would be to try and rally him. I see Trump being a Draven-esque LAW Fodder at this point.

I agree with LAW Fodder for Chop Chop (among jokey side characters from obscure, very Japanese 5th-gen games, he's more important than SBD, but comes from a game voters care about less) and Low Fodder for Don Paolo.

However, I'm going to say Low Fodder for Data because no supporting character from an 80s TV series will ever amount to much on GameFAQs, and Low Fodder for Trump because this site in general absolutely has quite a notable proportion of alt-righters and other types who would consider it funny to vote for him.

the series had the majority of its seasons from 1990 to 94, followed up by -4- movies and eventually ST: Picard from earlier this year. I think it can qualify as a 90s show.

Sorry, but I don't care if TNG ran into the 90s - it doesn't change my basic point, which is that 87-94 is just too old for GameFAQs in general to feel nostalgia for a show that isn't explicitly oriented towards kids. The average GameFAQs user was 7 (and a few months) when the TNG finale aired, and the movies and Picard didn't appeal beyond the existing Star Trek fanbase.

Also, since I'm here, posting again even though I didn't intend to do so, I guess I'll nominate what should be the final contest veterans I haven't yet: Black Shadow, Commander Keen, Jim Raynor, Kaim Argonar, Sho Minamimoto, Sissel, and The Great Mighty Poo. I suppose I'll also third reranking Big the Cat.

I'll change my ranking on Data to Low Fodder, since I guess TNG did mostly run while Gfaqs voters were young, so viewership was probably too limited to let a non-main character have strength.
