the consequence of the pandemic.... there's still some areas that are hitting phase 1 right now and can't welcome employees back 100%.

example: multnomah county in oregon. think there's a limit of some employees and can't open certain things yet despite the infections are getting bad.

Not nearly enough. Naturally, some jobs will come back when you ease the lockdown. The question is how many job losses are permanent. A lot of businesses have closed down permanently, so there won't be an immediate place for some to return to. And with many people continuing to social distance voluntarily some businesses that open up will still not need to bring everyone back yet.

Kind of a double edged sword because a lot of people are just using excuses to ride it out to get money for nothing, and a lot of people literally have no job. No idea which numbers more.

Meanwhile, if you offer it to the people just "riding it out"(protip, there are far fewer of those than you think) then you're doing absolutely no harm to society, and if you don't offer it to the people that need it, you are doing a ton of harm to society.

So yeah, a double edged sword....if one side was completely blunt....

They need to do something for low income "essential" workers. Id be making about 350 more a week if i was unemployed right now. If they want to act like we are the glue holding the country together they should show it.

I have no idea about the actual numbers, but anecdotally I've heard of way more people leaching than I have people legitimately fucked by current circumstances. And if people capable of work refuse to work, that's going to hurt things.

No, it really won't.

Are you only thinking of large businesses or something? We usually peak around 60-70 employees in the Summer, but we're barely above 30 currently. Even taking into account the lesser need currently, that's still way less than we should have. The number of applications is like one a week compared to the usual 10-15 per week. We're doing fine for the circumstances, but I can see a lot of smaller businesses really hurting if they're experiencing a similar decrease on top of everything else.

I used to work in restaurants and am still friends with some of my former coworkers on Facebook. The amount of people not only buying stupid shit they don't need with their unemployment, but bragging about it on social media was staggering.

4 months of unemployment plus the stimulus is well over ten grand at least.

I could easily stretch that out for 6 months if I had to. If idiots can't control themselves and put some back to ride this out past July 31st that's on them.

We haven't been able to get unemployment. My fiance and our roommate applied soon as they lost their job and the state is still so backed up they haven't received anything. Plus, unemployment is meant to be money to live on, a stimulus is supposed to be spending money meant to help individuals get what they need while stimulating the economy.
