What a shit show. Looks like one is leading the charge but its clear others arent stepping up to shut him down. I dont get why its so damn difficult. They are like children. I work everyday in my hospital wearing a mask the entire day. These people are sitting at tables the entire day and act like wearing a mask is so damn inconvenient that they are willing to put people are risk. Come the fuck on!

EDIT: This isnt the entire article. I dont think the entire thing would have fit

https://news.yahoo.com/citing-irrational-fears-of-killer-pandemic-republicans-fight-face-masks-in-congress-204027452.html

A bitter dispute erupted in a congressional hearing room on Friday, with Republicans refusing to wear face coverings and Democrats insisting that they do so.
Why is this so complicated? a frustrated Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said at one point in response to Republican intransigence, speaking through what appeared to be an N95 respirator. Theres one thing we can do to try to protect other people when were together, which is put on a mask. It doesnt cost us anything. Why would we not do that? Why is it some kind of macho thing, like, If I dont wear a mask, Im tough?

Green decided to denounce masks as part of his opening statement at a coronavirus-focused hearing held by a House Oversight subcommittee.
The hearing was intended to examine the Government Accountability Offices response to the pandemic, but it was at times derailed by the mask debate, as well as other partisan battles. At one point, for example, Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, a close ally of the president, asked that the GAO investigate China for its handling of the pandemic. The hearings primary witness, U.S. Comptroller General Gene Dodaro, explained that the GAO does not have authority to investigate China, as it is a sovereign nation.
Green, the subcommittees ranking Republican member, seemed especially bothered by a scene that he had witnessed earlier that morning. As I came in today, he said angrily, I saw a gentleman running on the sidewalk. There was no one within a hundred yards of the guy, yet he was wearing a mask while running. This speaks to the irrational fears this dishonest representation of the data by the media has caused, Green concluded.
Despite the claims Green and other Republicans have been making about masks, 65 percent of Americans say face covering should be required, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

Please rest assured, I will exert what control I do have, said Clyburn through a mask showing an outline of Washington, D.C., embossed with the number 51. That same day, the House of Representatives was set to vote for statehood for the nations capital. Republicans strongly oppose such a move.

If we wish to have these meetings in person, Clyburn said, were going to have to adhere to the attending physician, or I will not have these meetings in person. Just that simple.
Jordan then tried to make a point about Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York, who has faced criticism from conservatives for his handling of the pandemic. Clyburn did not take kindly to the comment. I have absolutely no control over the governor of New York, but I do have some control over this subcommittee. And I will exert it.
Later, Green, who had led the anti-mask charge in the hearing, appeared to make something of a concession to Clyburn. If you say, Green, I want you to wear a mask, sir, Ill wear a mask, youre the chairman of my committee. He did not, however, put on a mask. He also said he was telling his constituents in Tennessee not to wear masks unless they were in a high-risk population.
Speaking to Yahoo News after the hearing, Rep. Andy Kim, D-N.J., expressed dismay at the ongoing mask debate. I have no idea why they are so resistant, when it is really not a terrible inconvenience at all to wear a mask, he said of his Republican colleagues. Why not just take some of these precautions?

Or she can tell them to shut the fuck up as legally you require the Speaker of the House's permission to speak in the house

I really don't understand why wearing a mask has become such a controversial thing. "It infringes on our freedom." Yeah a lot of things do that. They're called "laws."

How can we expect their base to comply with safety measures if they people that lead them are this fucking selfish? I mean we can make fun of Karens and Todds and Barnaby and Ramona or whatever, but its shameful that the people up top are the reasons these idiots make their decisions.

It's the same dynamic that's happening with Greg Abbott in Texas and the same dynamic that's defined the Republican Party since Goldwater. If they wear masks, they will be seen by their base as weak, alarmist, and giving into liberal pressure on the liberal disease and anti-freedom. They will be seen as doing what the hated experts and elites recommend. Taking a basic health measure is now a central fault in the culture war, as absolutely everything in this country becomes, and worst of all, is seen as a repudiation of Trump.

That is death among the Republican base, the people who will actually vote. Some absolute ghoul even crazier them will seize on that weakness, primary the mask wearers and win. So they can't be seen wearing masks. It starts from Trump and Pence on down. And then it goes from them to their constituents, and you get what's happening in Texas and Florida.

Masks are cheap AF. The government could make their own and give them out for free or subsidize them. But I forgot, government is bad, and is bad at everything, and automatically makes everything worse, even carrying out fundamental responsibilities like responding to public health crises that cross borders.

The whole having to buy them thing isn't a good excuse. I could see it being a problem if all there was were the disposable masks and people were still price gouging them, but that's not the case. Washable masks aren't expensive and are widely available since everyone wants a piece of the pie. There are even instructions on how to make them out of stuff you probably already have at home.

You're trolling, and yet, most democrats would point to the response to COVID as proof you're right.

This is the type of person you're "both sides" ing with. Democrats, liberals, and leftists wear masks. People who have been mindwarped by a deadly form of identity/culture war politics don't.
