Why is early access so bad? I'll be honest, I don't really play a whole lot of games anymore, so why is early access so bad? Sure, it's not the full game, but it's a lot better than a demo

it's not inherently bad, but i just don't want to play half-finsihed games because my time ain't worth doing that. i like going virgin on a finished products.

if you want to support dev and play a role giving feedback pre-release, sure do it.

for me it's a waste of time and i'd rather wait than paying 40 bucks to beta test a game

and i think early access overall is a good thing for indie dev for they have feedback and testers as much as professional QA team, but it's just not for me.

It's exactly what Apollo said. EA isn't bad. It's good even, especially with devs like Larian who listen to feedback. I just don't want to put my time into that and prefer to wait.

I used to be in Sanctuary but I haven't been part of that in quite a while. I'm not in any DnD groups though, no. :( never played it. It looks really fun but also like a big time commitment.

I'm optimistic, Divinity Original Sin 2 is probably my favorite of this style of games, so Larian Studios was ideal for a developer. I hope they allow you to pick up and equip new weapons while in combat. My favorite Baldur's Gate experience was having my mage pick up my dead fighter's hammer and finishing Kangaxx off with it.

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'll wait for reviews and such to come in before buying. Also I may wait for any DLC to be released.

Start with a one-shot. Lots of them can be done with little or no preparation and can be very quick.

So, I've been watch a lot of videos today about this, and this is what I've learned so far

• Origin Characters or you can make your own
• Just about everything from the D&D 5e Rule Book will be available
• You can go full evil
• You can split the party [never do this!]
• If you have a Paladin, for example, in you group and you're evil. That Paladin might try to kill you
• If one of your party members promised to protect a group of Halflings, and one of the other party members can, um, disagree with this
• No development on a DM mode like Original Sin 2, but not out of the question. it's a big game, they need to focus on that
• Characters stop at level 10, I'm sure because it's going to be Early Access
• It will have a Short Rest and Long Rest system, just like D&D. If you try to go to camp in a dangerous zone, the game won't let you, but it will let you take a Short Rest
• Game is also using Spell Slots, hell yeah!
• Yes, the animals you tame and make your own pets show up at Camp as well
• -This is just me marking out for a second, lol
• Yes, your story companions can die. The game has mercenaries that you can hire that give you a story experience, but not a whole lot compared to the actual storyline ones
• It is impossible to see everything because of how many branching paths the game can take. Choice matters a lot to how things turn out. The guy working on the game gave 4 examples for a single quest

It's clear Larian is taking it very seriously that they have the Baldur's Gate name to live up to and this game just looks more and more amazing every time they show it. You can tell they are very inspired to have the chance to delve into this world too.

I like the look of it, but I'm on the fence about it being turn-based. I like the real time with pause aspect of the original games, but I realise that doesn't really jive with how modern D&D battle mechanics work.

I'm in a pretty similar position. These are my favorite games of all time, not sure I'm ready to embrace major changes to the gameplay even though I do respect what this developer has done in the past.

Don't fuck it up is all I ask.

I don't know. They might code it in. I don't know how effective it would be, seeing as the battle plane is more than the rudimentary 2D pencilled backgrounds of the predecessor. In one turn, we saw a character climb a ladder, get behind an enemy, and knock them off a building. I struggle to think how that would play out in a real-time with pause system.

But I can not speak for the fans of the first 2 games, I keep trying to play game, but I just can't.

Turn-based combat IS better for me, but the main draw for me is it being 100% 5e content. I'm a shy loser that doesn't have any friends, so I play 5e all alone. Being able to put all these characters I have made into a video game is a HUGE thing for me

I also love DOS2, and this game so much more than that. This game zooms in and lets you see the characters, and OS2 stayed pulled away. Also, there is literally 3-7 choices for everything, and each of those goes to something else.

I think this game is going to be legendary

Ugh. My main issue with the original BG is that low level combat focused D&D is terrible. This was mitigated in the Icewind Dale series because your characters would quickly level up and there wasn't a hard cap imposed.

However, every edition since 2nd has improved low level combat, so maybe it won't be an issue.

I loved the original games and loved pre-Original Sin Larion, but I just cant get the least bit interested in this.

You can build D&D Characters at D&D Beyond. You can save up to like 6 of them on a free account, and you're not going to get everything, but it's fun to build some. Maybe you should try it out?
