This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

I believe that Abby is the character that much of the series fanbase is divided on. Regardless she'll be Low Fodder now since I don't think many people will have played TLOU2 on the site yet.

When was the last time you saw a mention of Lost Odyssey on the internet? From what I can tell literally no one remembers this game, and it doesn't help that it never got a release outside of Xbox 360. And Kaim appeared during the game's peak relevance and stunk it up, so yeah. LAW Fodder.

Akira Yuki I think can scrape out Low Fodder. Any other VF character would probably be law, but Akira does at least have some appearances outside the series - he's actually playable in quite a few Sega games and DoA5 as well. More importantly perhaps he is an Assist in Smash Ultimate. I could also see him getting votes from old school fighting game fans.

Like Madeline, Meat Boy can move up to Mid Fodder. Him being the namesake of his game should let him track closely to his game's strength, which is very much liked on Gfaqs.

Man, Abby. I'll just say Low Fodder. Joel and Ellie weren't very good, and people actually like them.

I can't believe Kaim has been in more than one contest. He got quadrupled by Gilgamesh and tripled by Booker DeWitt, which is absolutely embarrassing, but he at least got 10% in a poll. I'll go with Low Fodder for him barely.

Low Fodder for Akira. Virtua Fighter is a series most of our demographic recognizes but not a lot of people care about it. He's at least pretty solid Low Fodder because of that.

Meat Boy avoided getting doubled by a (admittedly weak) Smash character and has an instantly recognizable character design, so I think he has a case for Mid Fodder, but relatively strong Low Fodder is probably a safer bet.

I'll agree with Ranticoot's votes for the three new characters. Getting quadrupled by Gilgamesh really isn't that bad; Kaim's result there puts him at ~8% on Base Link, which is well above LAW Fodder (and a certain other niche JRPG C/Kaim), and I doubt he's weakened much if at all since.

For Meat Boy, I'll say Mid Fodder. Yes, his 2013 result was pretty poor, but he did have an excuse with Mr. Game & Watch in the match, and I'd expect him to have significantly benefited from both voterbase shifts and more general shifts in the gaming sphere since. Plus, his name and design alike are inextricably associated with his game, one which I don't buy GameFAQs particularly likes, but nonetheless looked to be Mid Fodder in GotD.

I'll also third the Azala, Balder, Butterfree, Cody Travers, Elastigirl, Faith Connors, Gabranth, Galuf, Gary Oak, Guy, Gyarados, Liara T'Soni, Mr. Burns, Nebula, Oerba Yun Fang, Patrick Star, Serah Farron, Slowpoke, Tiger Woods, Tom Brady, Tornado Man, and Valkyrie nominations.
