Yes, I had to prepare and proctor a practical interview for technicians applying for a position in a group home, then of course submit reports to the hiring director and other senior officers.

Used to as a supervisor in a back office banking operation. I really didn't care about your technical skills as long as you had the right attitude and were easy to get along with.

So if I had 0% cash handling experience/0 years of accounting or math related experience you would hire me?

I was on a hiring committee and only interviewed one person, but each of us just read from a list of questions

Trained a bunch of people, never interviewed people though. God I wish I could interview people, at least then we wouldn't be getting so many morons who can't take simple instructions. Literally had one guy who nearly electrocuted another co-worker by not telling them there was a frayed wire in one of our machines. Blew out the outlet as well. Course... he kept his job, at least for another 2 months, which yeah... if it was me, fired instantly.

He's legit a good guy too. I have like 16 friends total that I follow on CE and he's one of them. REMOVE HIM IMMEDIATELY!

It's tough to say because it varies. If I can say this without looking like a shitbag, i'll just put it out there. My flags are a GED over high school diploma. Someone who worked their last 3+ jobs less than 3 months at a time total. I usually won't call people with a felony or criminal history.

Full completion of the application is very important. So many apps I get are full of blanks and it feels like they were either overlooked and that person is lazy, or they don't want to answer. Put n/a or "will discuss in person" and I respectfully oblige.

I don't care about your hobbies, or that you are "hard working and reliable". Tell me your actual skills, I can type fast, i'm active in social media, proficient in Word and Excel, etc. Stuff that matters for the position you are applying for.

No experience at all isn't a bad thing, hiring someone who never had a job usually means they are very trainable and listen to instructions early on. A lot of people with a lot of background cling onto what they did before at their old job. "The way I used to do it at my old job..." I don't care, we do it this way here.

All hiring managers are different, but this is generally my approach.

Oh, also provide phone numbers for previous employers. We usually never call, but no number seems like you have something to hide, or again, you are too lazy to do the research, look up the number, and provide it. Put down something, even if it's a fake number. This tells me you are fine with me calling them and you weren't an awful employee there.

well that is shitty

This seems like good advice. I reached out to a hiring manager today and I'm my pitch I talked briefly about why I was interested. At that point talking about my skills seems hacky but people will look for whatever reason to turn you down if they feel like it.
