They used gasoline in cocaine production eewww.

Like I understand sometimes discovery in medicine or food can happen by accident but who in the first place would think of mixing coca leaves with cement, fuel & sulfuric acid and then consuming the end product?

Also, why does it have to be gasoline?

I doubt the manufacturers of illicit drugs are overly concerned about the provenances of the substances they use when refining product.

Probably a more expensive one. Gas is relatively cheap and easy to get.

Clandestine operations tend to improvise with non-suspicious substitutions in the process whenever possible, until that too is banned for some reason. Go look up "krokodil" sometime, but not right after eating.

Elemental iodine is heavily controlled now, because of meth or something.

Cocaine definitely has a distinctive chemical-y smell to it, I always assumed it was some kind of chemical that's horrible for humans to ingest lmao

Sigmund Freud believed the smell of cocaine to be that of decaying semen and caused by the chemical triethylamine - thar came to him in a dream and was the inspiration for Freudian dream interpretation.

I'm getting the sense that Freud was on a lot of drugs. And besides that, this sounds like another Freud Theory that's been tossed in the dustbin of scientific history.
