My Galaxy S9 is on the fritz, screen is acting up. Have to keep "always on display" on to keep it functioning relatively well, otherwise the screen flashes green or just doesn't come on at all. And this causes the battery to drain real fast. So I'm guessing it won't last much longer until it craps out for good.

Funny thing is I take amazing care of it and it only started happening after a software update. A bunch of people on a Samsung support forum have the exact same issue (mint phone, this issue only started after a software update) and Samsung won't help at all

So what's a good and cheap Android phone for when this one dies? I'd normally splurge for the newest Galaxy S20, but I'd like to keep my financial cushion a bit bigger cause of the pandemic. A relative of mine got a new Galaxy A50 for $300 which seems like a good deal for what it is. Any other recommendations?

Try a hard reset first. Some apps as well as updates are really bad dealing with it without a factory reset. Things should go back to when you bought it.

For example, my S10 has started suffering and my S9 was doing very bad till I removed half the apps. Things got much better.

Right now I'm using the S20, but my plan is to hard reset both the older ones once I've backed everything up.

Definitely have never had this happen on any of my recent Galaxy S devices - not my 1+ year old S10+ or the S8+ before it.

Can do the hard reset and wipe cache partition as well. I only usually wipe the cache after a big update.

Also if you do hard reset, set up as a new phone and flash the U1 firmware. Look at how bad it is with the S20 on the left. So much bloat with carrier ones. The other two are U1.

It's because you're a light user. This is a common issue and has happened to tons of people. Things pile up, especially with games and lots of file writing and files in general. It slows it down.

People with my issue on that support forum I was talking about have tried everything including this, and it doesn't work. So I don't think I'm gonna bother tbh. Just sounds like a hassle wiping everything and having to get it all back even when it doesn't work

I'd try to use a custom Android flash if the hardware is fine

The Moto-E line of phones is pretty decent. If you want to spend a little more money you can bump up to the Moto-G line. I'd stay away from Chinese brands at this point.

You might want to consider jumping over to the iPhone. I've never been able to get used to Android.

People have tried that too and it didn't fix this particular issue. They think it's a software issue that Samsung has yet to address

I've also tried that OLED Saver app they were talking about but it didn't really do anything for me. Always On Display is the only thing that keeps it usable without waiting for the screen to stop being weird
