As I understand, some of you received a check about 2 months ago that was just about enough to pay rent. What else is going on?

I assume if they're out of work then they're also receiving unemployment, not just the one stimulus check.

When Tom Hanks was diagnosed, I lost my spring business. When the protests started, I lost the fall.

Im a travel agent who takes schools to big cities to see the history, go on 4-5 day school trips to see Broadway shows, the Statue of Liberty, the Smithsonians, Independence Hall, etc. The virus has literally upended the travel business, and Ive spent the last 3 months begging for refunds to give to my clients. My senior adult trips to Europe, Canada, and the US are all but dead as well. Holding on to like 2 more fall trips, but each day brings a new cancellation.

Thankfully, and by the grace of a God, I started an eBay biz out of the blue, buying locally and selling online, that has been very lucrative. It has exposed me to practically hundreds of people during a pandemic, but it was either drive around and buy stuff to sell, or lose my house, make my wife have to move into a tiny apartment, lose my big dogs cause they couldnt stay there...ugh, just thinking about what could have been makes me sick.

Nowadays, its basically wake up, see what electronics, video games, or various items are on the local websites, and hope I can get them before someone outbids me.

I miss traveling, but honestly just thankful I still have my house. Ive heard so many horror stories from other tour guides/travel agents...

You're understanding is wrong only partly correct. The media loves to pile on America for everything now, even with things that we aren't doing badly.

The truth is unemployment benefits were greatly increased, to the point where some people are making more money now than pre-pandemic. The stimulus check was an attempt to help people in the very immediate with necessary items like groceries.

My job laid me off last March and I have been on unemployment since then. Its terrible in my industry right now. Nobody needs limo service or bus service.

Work might be closing down again next week i heard. Im still going to be paid though to stay at home which will be pretty comfy.

Otherwise I do have $150k saved and some passive income plus no debt. Worse comes to worse and I become unemployed, i can always move back with my parents and just chill so i dont deplete my funds too quickly.

Unemployment is keeping me at about my normal pay rate. I go back to work in 2 weeks. My fiance has been working the whole time and because got out of college into a crashing market I keep several years salary on hand live well below my means. I can realistically not work for at least 10 years.

My job was still paying me. Was because it's summer now, and they already pay me for that. I work at a school so I get an extra 2 months off and got paid for them, and now it's Summer, which I already get paid for
