Two things here:
1. has the video game industry gotten more or less profitable in the last 10 years?
2. I'll pay the extra 10 bucks, but devs gotta cut that dlc bs. Stuff like MHW Iceworld (forgot the name lol) or Witcher 3 dlc is fine. Otherwise I want a complete game.

There is no way they'd ever cut DLC/Microtransactions. They make way too much for what is essentially nothing in a lot of cases.

Games in Australia have been over $100AUD for ages ($70USD) for years and years.

It used to be fair & reasonable for shipping costs, but then when everything went digital... we're still paying $100 for basic games and $135 ($94USD) for deluxe editions

fair. back on the snes games would cost like $30-70~ new. pretty sure like chrono trigger and some other RPGs were like $70 new. that's $100+ with inflation.

controllers went up too. weren't they like $40 for a new one? know they're $60 new now.

the argument is movies and tv disc sales are way down i'm assuming. most people just use streaming services and don't really buy much. same with music. it's just streaming music for everything.

I don't think they've ever changed it. Dollar is good? $99. Dollar is bad? $99

Luckily stores like JB Hi-Fi, Big W, Target, Amazon etc. are all competitive with physical games. To the point where I can often find new releases for cheaper than the US. I guess this price change might change that.

We just have a weird market I think.

But yeah these prices are awful for digital. Digital only consoles will probably bomb here. Then again EB Games is still popular so who knows.
