I have of late come to the conclusion that I drink too much on a weekend. Generally, I consume a litre of vodka in two days. I cannot truthfully say why I feel the urge to drink, since I do not glean any real enjoyment from the process.

Not wishing to irreversibly damage and/or fry my liver into a crunchy cirrhotic mess, I am going to attempt to quit drinking.

I have something of an addictive personality, this I am aware of. I am a fiend for caffeine and nicotine (although with one exception I have not bought any cigarettes over the last four months, I suck my way through nicotine lozenges like they are going out of style).

Step 1 will be the alcohol.
Step 2 will be the nicotine.
Step 3 (may) be caffeine.

I shall also attempt to develop a regular exercise routine, since very long, very fast walks were a source of pleasure before the gremlins arrived. Before the shift to working from home, this was also sated in part by walking to and from the train station each morning, and going for a walk on my lunch break.

I bought a bottle of vodka yesterday evening. This shall be the last I purchase for at least four weeks and once it is gone, that will be it. At four weeks, I will set another goal.

Get solid on lowering booze first.

Trying to quit two things at once makes both harder.

That is a very good point. I think the booze is the more important thing to kick. The nicotine lozenges are more just an expensive irritation - literally since they screw my stomach.

Have you considered an e-cig?

The stomach issues might be from too much nicotine, it's a bit easier to manage dosage with one of those.

Yeah, Ive considered it, but nicotine ampoules for e-cigs here are illegal, so Id have to buy them from fairly dodgy characters.

Managed to use fewer lozenges again today, but they were the ones that really kill my stomach because I was out of my usual brand, so that was... fun.

I also realised I have my first leave since Xmas (ignoring the Easter long weekend coming up). It could be interesting avoiding the temptation to buy a bottle of something, but Im damn well going to try!

You can do it, all the behaviors people thought were cool in their early 20s are actually huge red flags in the late 20s and up haha so you're doing really well by recognizing you need to change.

Quit the alcohol, quit the nicotine, quit the caffeine, quit the junk food, join a gym, meditate/go to church, try to learn something new every day etc.

You got this bud!

I definitely backslid today and bought a 6 pack, rationale being Im On Holiday. The depressing little victory being I bought beer rather than a bottle of spirits.

Im still going to do this- just stretching the end time out by a week. Im going to go 4 weeks without buying any alcohol, no matter what.

You never know until you do it.

I was drinking about 750 mL of 99 Whatever Fruit is the Least Disgusting (usually Black Cherries, then Bananas, Apple if I had to).

In more practical terms, I know for a fact that I can be up, walking, and talking at a BAC of .37.

That's literally enough to kill a motherfucker and I'd still be on my feet. I wouldn't be very good at the walking and the talking, but still.

So if I can do it, I know anyone can.

Thanks. I smoked one so far. I have less cravings now. I still drink a lot of tea but I don't see too much harm in it.
