Digital-only PS5 vs Standard (optical drive) PS5. Which would you buy?

There are going to be two versions of the launch PS5. The standard model WILL be more expensive (exact prices unknown).

Are you fully embracing the digital-only future of gaming or do you still want your PS5 to play physical media (discs) thanks to its optical drive?

The most important reason, at least for me, to have physical media is that I can sell the game later.

If you buy a game and you don't particularly care for it, you're mostly SOL. Sony isn't as accepting of returns as Steam.

lmao @ PS5 SAD edition

I'd never hamstring my own enjoyment by buying a console that can't read discs. If I wanted to go all-digital, I'd still use the standard edition, just in case I want to do some other disc-based media (dvd, cd, someone brings a game over, etc.)

Standard obviously. Unless there is a significant price difference, there is no reason to go digital-only.

Whatever small savings I would get from buying an all-digital system would be lost from all of the disc-only game sales I would miss out on. Plus I have a bunch of physical PS4 games. If I got the digital system I would need to sell them and rebuy them, likely losing money in the process.

Standard all the way. I want to have the option. And digital only will fill up drive space fast. Which is an issue with having to download files from the disk but not as bad.

I don't think there's any space savings with disc-based games nowadays. The whole game is installed to the HDD/SSD, and the disc is used purely for verification purposes and the initial game install. This will be especially true next gen where all of the games will be relying on the SSD's speed.

When I got my Xbox I was disappointed that physical games were basically just licenses to download the game anyway, so most of my games this gen have been digital anyway. But I don't have a blu-ray player otherwise, and I use it more than I was expecting to.

Really it depends how much cheaper the disc-free version is. If its like 20$ cheaper than I don't think its worth losing the disc drive but like 100$ cheaper? yeah I'll go digital only, since I basically am already doing that with my Xbone.

Yeah but it's easier to make space and get the data back from the disk than downloading it again.

The fact that it comes with a UHD drive is more than enough to cover the cost of standard vs. digital.
