not just the 80's. this has probably happened since cops were invented. think of all the non white people who got hurt by "officer friendly" in the 50s

They bitched and moaned about defunding the police despite the fact that issue was hijacked from its original take; what Defunding police really meant was to stop the militarization of the police force and to stop the Military Culture from overlapping the Police Culture.

It was one of the prime suspects why PDs got so out of hand, but those assclowns refuse to acknowledge that.

And Miles Davis was beaten almost to death while he was on a smoke break playing a show in 58 I think. He released Kind Of Blue which is pretty much the best jazz album of all time right after I believe.
