Origin movies are always boring, there's the tedious first mission, the "discovering their powers" scenes, then finally, we get the fully powered and suited up hero, and the movie ends.

I dunno if I'd call it dumb, but I definitely wasn't a fan.

They're looking for the frozen ship at the beginning but nonchalantly drop a fifty lb ice chunk into something that could be damaged or compromised.

A guy who is short his whole life gets it shoved in his face every five seconds because he's 4-F. With all his health problems, it's a wonder he survived childhood in the 30s. He's being told because he wants to fight but I think the guy would've been well aware for a while. The audience doesn't need spoon feeding.

Colonel Philips makes his troops think he'd throw a live grenade and Rogers attempts to sacrifice himself because he has a good heart, in contrast to the other guy who is a "bully." It's so fucking cliche. Why waste millions of dollars (in 1940s money) on a guy who weighs a hundred pounds? Why is only one other guy being considered? Why is Abraham so compromised by his experiences that he chooses someone based only on their cartoonish sense of morality when there are MILLIONS of perfectly fine candidates?

A British female instructor to American soldiers? Preposterous. And she shoots Captain's shield when she sees him kissing another woman. Lady, you and him are not (yet) a thing, why are you acting like a jealous 16 year old girl? Why would you test a shield with potentially life threatening consequences not only for Steve but for any poor sap the bullet hits by ricochet?

The guy Rogers chases bites down on a cyanide pill just AFTER he admits who is and who sent him.

The want to send the successful test subject home to sell war bonds. I get it's a parody of early Captain America but why waste a valuable resource they spent so much time working for? Couldn't they have an actor play him instead? Colonel Philips thinks Rogers is a whimp, then sees the results but doesn't have him use his abilities after catching up to a murderer after parkouring through half of Manhattan, then coldly tells Carter he's dead. What a total asshole and idiot.

That must've been the longest hangar in the universe.

EDIT: Why were they firing their weapons in the train so close to an explosive?

Don't get so caught up in the details.

It also had some of the most obviously wired stunts in history but who cares, it was a fun film with lots of charm. Campy for the fun of it. Ultimate paragon vs the nazi among nazis who is so nazi he has to do the nazi salute with both arms and then he peels off his face and reveals he's also satan.

But oh no diving on a grenade is just too campy.

Me: Jesus hell i was so bored. If they ever make a sequel theyd have to really pump the action up. I mean they better have cap doing badass fighting during the opening of the movie and an awesome villain.

Falling on a grenade is highly honorable, there's even one dude who survived, Kyle Carpenter.

But the context in the movie is ridiculous. Does Colonel Philips have a habit of carrying dud grenades?

Don't know about the details on Vibranium. But she didn't know what would happen.

He pulled one off the truck they were near, actually.

How could she not know? She was aware it existed and was high ranking enough to be know about Starks experimenting with it, so would have some idea of it's unique properties. I doubt that was the first time anyone shot at it.

Yea Winter Soldier and Civil War were miles better

Funny how it is reversed with Iron Man's origin films: the first Iron Man one was really good, but not a lot of people liked 2 and 3 whereas the first Captain America one was considered to be only ok and then people loved Winter Soldier and Civil War.

Do people actually like Civil War?

I mean, if for some reason you were expecting the next film from the Ant Man universe to be a dark gritty angstathon, it was a perfectly fine film.

And it actually is pretty fitting with how the Cap series progressed. It's just that it dragged every other related property in with it.

I just thought that despite all the other characters getting dragged in, it was a non-event.

Tony and Cap's motivations were half-assed, which given that it was an ideological dispute that they were willing to fight their friends over, doesn't really make sense. I feel like there should have actually been some decent conversations that amounted to more than:

'Let's sign the accords.'
'Nope.'

But all we got was filler until the airport scene, which ended up really highlighting one of the big issues of the MCU, in that it was so apparent that there were no real stakes involved.

First Avenger owns. The premise is ridiculous and patriotic to a parodistic degree. The original comics couldn't have asked for a better adaptation.

I can agree with this.

The whole time they were fighting I was like "well this is cool and all but is this going to amount to anything other than just throwing in every character?"
