The bit in I think season 1 where Jack jumps a fence instead of using a gate and his boss is like 'really jack" will always stick with me

I had no idea about this

Young Jack at CTU or wherever he was before Henderson recruited him (I think he was an LAPD detective or something)?

I just really wanna know what happens to jack. Surely his story can't end with him just dying in prison right? Dude just alternates between prison and being on the run....there's gotta be some sorta better ending out there for him

Just let it go. The reboot was bad. The season before it with Jack in Britian was bad. Season 6 was terrible. Leave the memories alone.
Live Another Day was good tho

Regardless yeah I don't think another continuation is a good idea

Best start over

Ugh. 24. This is 24 in a nut shell.

Keifer: I'm trying to save people!
Everyone: Shut-up, sit-down!
Keifer: Goes off and saves people on his own.
Everyone:..... (absolutely no thank yous).

Ugh. Painful show to sit through.

Season 6 was way better than its remembered as, it just had the bad luck of coming after the greatest season in television history.

I think his ending is fine. His family is safe and he doesnt need to live life on the run anymore.

Plus hed probably run that fuckin prison by his 2nd week.

Season 6 is a mediocre to alright season that has the unfortunate predicament of being sandwiched between the two best seasons of the show

I doubt it comes back nowadays. The show would take too much heat on what would be considered "terrorists."

I think it came at the perfect time really but it was also a product of its time. Back when the world was all 'fuck yeah!' about killing terrorists and bad people no matter the cost.

I dunno if the whole "I will torture people and do morally bad stuff to save this city and I am totally justified in doing so" works as well these days. The show also went in directions that's really hard to top.

The show did mature a bit in the second half of its run to the point where I would say it doesn't try to claim this at all.

Besides I feel like there's a way to handle the subject manner in a mature, morally grey way that fits our current historical "moment"

You could but that would need a reboot at this point I think. But I also don't think 24 exists without Keifer Sutherland.

Shows like The Bodyguard still do work pretty well and that wasn't too long ago so yeah it overall can be done but Jack Bauer is so established at this point. 24 Legacy felt pretty boring compared to the heights of the old seasons.

It's kind of like the X-Files to me. It's a show that is a product of its time. 24 is totally War on Terror Bush era sort of stuff (that sort of also gave a preview of Obama with Palmer funnily enough). It's a double edged sword since the show was special because of when it released in the right moment but it's also hard to replicate that sort of feeling. They also both relied on their stars in a very significant way.

I agree - a lot of the latter seasons were about Jack facing consequences for his actions

I *do* wish he died at the end of season 8 - not because I didn't like the character but because it would have let him stop running/atone for everything through his passing (hope that made sense)

24 Legacy was pretty good, better than the low of S6, that's for sure. It just didn't have Jack, so it felt...unimportant I guess.

Not at all. A good number of those behind the terror attacks were either American corporate collectives, or a Jack's evil brother or an evil President

And yes, Season 5 is undoubtedly the show's pinnacle. Seasons 3 and 4 were good, but very mundane and routine. Season 5 shook the foundation of everything established from each season prior to it and took Jack to a whole new level.

Pretty sure half the villains are domestic terrorists and the other villains had clear reasons for what they were doing. They never presented it as America is amazing and perfect.
