So what Im actually interested in - travel stocks are sucking today even with good vaccine news. Now Im a little concerned that most good news for vaccines is totally built into the current prices at this point.

Imagine my feeling when I saw how TQQQ performed today, thinking I had 3000 dollars on TQQQ

Only to find out I actually had just 500 because I chickened out on it on Friday (sorry I don't really remember what I did in Friday..turns out I also bought one share of Amazon...)
Fantastic day, could have been better, but I like "Friday Nanis" more than "Monday Nanis" because what I bought on Friday were logical purchases and not made by greed (putting so much money on a leveraged stock is risky, so 500 dollars on TQQQ is much smarter than 3000, even though it's painful to admit this after today..)

Tesla is in interesting position
I have no idea if something like that happened before in Wall Street...
I mean, it's a bubble. And there plenty of bubbles. And all of them exploded sooner or later, we all know that.
But Tesla is not a regular bubble. It isn't a cannabis stock. It isn't a meme stock like "haha let's go to the space choo choo" SPCE, it isn't a coronavirus vaccine stock or anything...
It's a real company. With real products. Run by one of the richest people in the world.
It isn't immune because no stock is. But I have a feeling they won't let it crash and burn so easily.

But who knows. A bad delivery report or a financial report that do not meet expectations might crash the stock hard.
I invested in Tesla about a year ago (when they had a reasonable price) and it tanked 17% in one day because of a terrible report. it was painful.
Imagine something like that happening at THIS price...

Yeah, the stock market is a hard game. There's a reason 10% a year is considered an excellent long run return. Most people don't even achieve that.

I am pretty sure that people that invested for 5 years on diverse stocks are still in the red
I mean, if you invested in tech stocks like Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia, AMD etc you are probably swimming in cash
But if you invested in travel, oil, real estate stocks as well...5 years of progress crashed down in just 2 months

Long term is not always the right approach

Returns would closely follow an index, which would be clear in the green by now.

If you are red after the last 5 years it would be a sign of poor diversification.

I mean if you invested in tech in 2000 you might still be in the red, depending on how much you had in Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft. If you didn't have a lot in those and had a lot in Pets.com, Webvan, etc. you'd still be in the red.

That said, if you allocated even 3% of your portfolio to Amazon in 2000, and you didn't throw in the towel when Amazon was down 90% within 2 years, you'd be in the green now even if every single other company you bought went bankrupt.

Apple was doing pretty badly then. This was before the ipod, and after Microsoft basically pushed Apple out of the personal computer market.

As for Microsoft, it had the highest market cap of any company in 2000, and there's a very simple reason for not investing in the company with the highest market cap - greed. You feel that it's already gone up so much and is so big, you can get better returns somewhere else. And, it took 16 years before Microsoft recovered its 2000 high. That's a long time to be waiting in the red.

I guess what I'm saying is that I could totally see this topic investing in none of these (and it wouldn't be particularly dumb).

Microsoft wasn't really that far in the red at any point though.

I'm just saying like, you have the major profitable operating systems between the two of those. I feel like in 2000 investing in at least one is a gimme if you're going with tech. Microsoft for the "safe" choice and Apple for the long ball. I guess you could gamble on Linux winning but that seems crazy to me.

I know that many articles are often dramatic but this one is surprisingly logical. I am seriously considering selling AAL for a $10k loss. I'm sure it's possible if not likely that AAL will go up another 25% at some point, but who knows when. It's also possible (and maybe more likely) that it goes lower and either bankrupts or stays at $8 - $12 forever.

As much as itd suck to lose $10k, Id still be net positive from trading and also this would slightly offset my taxable income. Am I being crazy?

You could sell it and buy DAL or LUV. Realize some taxable losses now and aim to sell DAL or LUV after 12 months so the gain is a long-term gain and taxed lower.

I mean it's not 100% guaranteed that DAL is not going bankrupt but before the coronavirus hit, DAL had a surplus of like 14 billion of assets over debts. AAL was already at negative 2 billion or so. DAL has been building up cash reserves and is now at something like 15 billion in cash on hand. I feel pretty safe about it.

Bezos is projected to be the world's first trillionaire in a decade or so, no? I assumed you got out of Amazon to get in something else that had a limited time opportunity, which I approve of because I've made these plays before! But if you thought you were going to net lose money from Amazon in the future...

Yeah that's not a thing. I still think it's a bubble that will pull back again, and same with Tesla, but if you put all your money in both stocks right now even in these bubbles, you'd be totally fine in the end. Maybe one of these days I can get in Tesla around a thousand and more Amazon shares at, I dunno, 2500ish?

Also if y'all are watching AVCT, this thing is finally ripping. Loading up under 3.5 and tripling down on this bad boy. Sorry redsox - I do agree with your assessment on overinvestments, but not with this stock! I'll let y'all know my profits when we hit 7 by the end of the week baby.
