McKayla was 16 when she joined the US Gymnastics Team and was supposed to be a lock for a gold medal which she only won as an all around but not in the event she specialized in which she lost to Ukraine. She left gymnastics right after the olympics and started moving quickly on her career after gaining fame for her pouty mouth..
