Idk if it's the 4K upscale or what but man some of the effects are uh... Rough. Which is understandable, since it came out in 2002 and cgi effects and blue screen(what the prequels chiefly used) were still relatively new.

I get why people hate it, though hate would be a strong word for my feelings towards it. Mostly it's mediocre.

Even some of the action is boring. I was more engaged to the politics and initial Kamino scene than I was to the ground war on Geonosis. The shot composition of a lot of Geonosis is stale and boring.

I'd shorten the whole affair by the order of like 20-30 minutes. Tighten up the romance scenes to be a bit more of a one off affair in the scenes instead of being divided up into 30 second to 3 minute scenes dispersed throughout the other stuff going on in the film.

I don't entirely disagree with the base premise of the film, I think it serves its intended purpose (the formation of Anakin-Padme, the reasoning behind the existence of the the Clones and why the Clone Wars kicked off, the initial catalyst for Anakin's eventual turn) okay enough but it definitely needed to be tightened up or restructured around.

Like I feel the death of Anakin's mom could've been handled in a way that would've made more sense in the purview of his turn. Perhaps she could've been fine when Anakin first arrives then she gets taken and Anakin is part of the group that goes out to save her and despite his efforts he was too late to save her. Set it up in a way where he had her back in his life, even momentarily or for a day and then he gets her violently ripped from his arms (figuratively).

I dunno. Like I said I don't hate the movie. I feel some scenes drag on too long, some scenes have little to no place in the film, some scenes seriously needed to be expanded upon in regards to the context and impact they had on the overall story arc of the (at the time) 6 films.

If Anakin ran for President would his critics say "SAND!"?

His mom dying comes across as very contrived. He finally goes to check on her, she dies three seconds after he finds her, and he snaps and starts killing people. It definitely could've been set up better.

I dont mind the romance sub plot, and I actually really like awkward romances, but Anakin comes off as a creepy stalker lmao. They needed to get someone else to write or direct those scenes. On a conceptual level it works. Just not...in execution. >_>

Don't worry. To be a Star Wars fan you have to either hate or dislike most of it.

It's one of those movies I loved when I saw it at the theatres (twice). In a couple short years and after I had really gotten into watching actual "good" or "classic" movies, the cracks began to show. It's an absolute trainwreck. 3 is a bit better, but the damage runs deep thanks to 1 (way lesser extent) and 2. The real culprit behind the mess is George of course. And the competition is plain better. Lord of the Rings is still phenomenal. Comic book movies started getting good on a consistent basis.

Once the comics book movies really started rolling, the PT immediately got left in the dust. The profile of the OT only gets better with time.
