Yeah it seems to stem more from dislike of the game itself. She didn't seem all that different from Cloud and Squall at first either. Distant, cold, act alone, and then eventually warm up to more and more people. Though tbf to her haters, the characters weren't written all that well in the first game which can stunt interactions.
