Well, theres some good news. Turns out that lady at work isnt just a bitch to me. Shes bitchy to everyone :D

When I was sitting up front helping train another receptionist, she came by and started whining. She seriously was complaining that we werent 6 feet apart when the room were in is super tiny. If there was 6 feet between us someone would literally be sitting in the doorway <_<

Fuck me. I had an experience that makes me feel bad about drinking.

Not me personally but i was out at a spot with my buddy whos mid 40s and has 60+ pounds on me and i was genuinely concerned for his safety. I had to actually be controlling when thats the furthest thing from my nature.

he couldnt stand on level ground and i had to pick him up out of poison ivy multiple times and had to flat out yell at him to fucking sit down and let me carry my bike and his up the rocks and to not fucking move till i came back for him and then he crashed his bike 4 or 5 times and couldnt even stand up without help and he wouldnt fucking stop trying to ride even though i kept telling him id walk with him and to just take it easy.

Then he got pissed and started getting hostile to me and i had to fake anger when i felt genuine concern (which is infinitely worse) just to get him to shape up and walk with me instead of killing himself.

It was a bad scene.

Ive known him since i was like 24 and he was 30 or 31 and I legitimately feel bad right now cause he wasnt really a drinker when i met him and i feel like i was the primary factor in him drinking heavily in his 40s.

He obviously cant handle it in spite of his size but it was always funny before today.

Today i had to pick him up and carry him and his bike as well as mine after his final crash and deal with him yelling and swearing at me till i finally just put him in his place.

Otherwise im having a great day but fuck i think he genuinely needs help and maybe thats partly my fault.

Ah I gotcha

Tomorrow is my girl's birthday and I got her a sketchbook and an art set. She's shown me some of her drawings and they're pretty good. A lot better than anything I could do, but all she uses is a #2 pencil and she's mentioned wanting to get into painting and stuff in passing. This thing has a bunch of colored pencils, watercolor, acrylic, markers and felt pens so its a nice thing to get her started to find out what she likes to use. I also got her a bottle of Patron, and I told her I still have the other bottle of Cuervo left for the weekend so she thinks she's gonna be sipping on that instead lol she's in for a surprise.

I asked her what she wanted to do this weekend and she said all she wanted to do was order wingstop for her birthday dinner (she doesnt want to go anywhere and have to wear a mask) and then just get baked and watch TV/play VGs all weekend. So we're gonna do that but I got all her favorite munchies as well

I also got some scented massage oil which needs no explanation lol

Of course its never fun being the one having to deal with it. If its a habit of his then yeah its a problem but if not then just write it off as a bad night.

You can't feel responsible for his long term actions and what he turned into. It's his life and his decisions, you were just his boy and liked getting tanked with him. We all were there at some point, we had those buddies that we got lit with, or drank with. Some move on from it, some stick it out. Don't put that on yourself, it sounds like he needs help if he's going there with it, but he needs a professional if he decides to seek that out.

it was all around bad but when we got to a place with other people and he bailed again and started having a mini breakdown.... like maybe im an asshole but i dont want anyone to see me around that tbh. It was embarrassing and by that time id already put up with an insane amount of shit.

I mean hes a friend and you stand by your friends but i was kneeling by him trying to be all firm and saying listen look at me. Look me in the eyes. Hey. Look at all these people bud. You can get up and walk. Ill help. use your bike to support yourself. Dont ride. Dont yell anymore. Look at me and just pull it together. Just get it together and lets at least get past this place and away from the crowd and you can do whatever.

im the shit show guy not the caretaker. But that was a whole different deal. I havent been that fucked since i was ~14. It was just... i wish i had video cause it would be a wakeup for him.

Youre completely right. I just wish i knew how to make him get help. God knows he wont listen to me and even if he would im just a functional version of the same for the most part.

Really i feel bad for him and about whatever role i played in it ending up in this.... but also i feel like a dick cause as soon as people were around and it caused a scene i truly wanted to just leave him to it. I didnt and i wouldnt but i feel bad for wanting to so much.

That said i was just trying to help him survive and went way out of my way and ate a lot of abuse for it so i dunno. Maybe i shouldnt be that hard on myself.

Even 15 years ago thats late 20s/early 30s when you said it started, thats still way too old to still be using "I was impressionable and I didn't know better" as an excuse for his choices. Still its.... i mean who the fuck knows really but hed maybe be better off today if i never knew him.

Or hed have shittier people around him and be in the same boat but worse. I dunno. A big part is i feel bad for wanting to just leave him for random people to deal with to save face.

He was a casual drinker at best but he turned into an alcoholic from hanging out with me. I never forced it upon him but being around me drinking every time we hung out he started doing it more and more.

I also understand the mindset of feeling guilty. I used to smoke cigarettes a lot, and my friend (the one I spoke about that I recently had a falling out with) never really smoked cigarettes until me and him roomed together then I noticed he started smoking more and even buying his own packs. I thought "if he didn't live with me where I smoked a pack a day and we hung out all the time, would he have still picked up the habit or not?"

But I am a proponent of self accountability. I didn't smoke a single cigarette until 19 when I was in college and had a friend that smoked a lot and I tried some from him at a party and I gradually grew into the habit. Is it his fault I started smoking? No. I chose to do that. I knew full well what the consequences were, I had been taught about it pretty much all 19 years of my life until that point. He never egged me on to do it. I made the conscious decision to ask him if I could have one, he even asked me if I was sure because he knew I didn't smoke, and I kept reassuring him I wanted it. It's the same thing of when I first drank and smoked weed and did any other drug I've ever done. I chose it, nobody forced me to do it.

I've also never done heroin or meth or any of those other drugs. I've been around them plenty as well but that's a conscious decision I'm making to never do them when offered. Hell my roommates during my hiatus from college before I went back, who were my friends since HS, got hooked on H and I was around it all the time. I had so many opportunities to just say "fuck it, I'll see what this is like" but I never did. Because I made the choice not to.

So ultimately it is on the individual unless force or coercion comes into play and you can't get trapped into the mindset of "I did this to them" despite how tempting it is. Like Canuck said earlier, if he has become friends with someone else then he could have very well fallen into even worse shit. Don't get bogged down on hypothetical hindsight like that, it accomplishes nothing except bad and unproductive thoughts. I've learned that through experience. It takes a little bit of practice and sometimes you feel like an asshole but you can't let yourself be blamed for things other people have done to themselves because then you go on a self loathing thought tangent on top of the other person dealing with their shit and that helps nothing, it only adds to the problem.

Edit: Oh, and to add to this it would also be different if you were bringing this around someone much younger, say like if you were in your 30s and you introduced stuff to someone in their early 20s or late teens. Even though they're legal it's still kinda sketch because they really are still developing their minds and are pretty impressionable so that's definitely a gray area even though kids in that age do commonly experiment with alcohol and drugs themselves. But someone in their 20s influencing someone in their 30s? Unless they're mentally disabled or something, fuck that lol they've lived life long enough to know what's wrong and right and what they want and don't want

Cats are in a royal rumble right now, been chasing each other for 30+ minutes, the oldest two. One ran in here and got on the book shelf and the other followed, wondering where she was, and she dived down and body slammed him, made a loud thunk on the floor and I legit thought he was KO'ed and hurt. He got up and stumbled around for a few seconds, but the chase continued. Cats have heads made of steel.
