Like does that make it ok? Cops should rarely be using lethal force.

also, with how they act against minorities they are most likely doing it against whites too.

Like you claim to love America but dont care when Americans are getting killed.

do people use that as an argument to "make it ok" and demonstrate that they "don't care" about Americans getting killed? i don't think they do. i've only seen that argument made when people believe that it's ONLY a police brutality issue and NOT a police racism issue (which obviously the issues with the police in America today is in fact multi-faceted).

It's frequently used as a thought terminating cliche to end debates on racial justice. It redirects the conversation to white people and the idea that black people are complaining too much or that white people are the true victims, pillar arguments that a lot of people love and have as the core of their world views.

For example, when Trump talks about white people being killed more, it's not a call to arms against police brutality, it's not a signal to white people or to everyone to fight for police reform, it's a way to discredit BLM and police reform because they know that a lot of the support comes from a racial justice angle.

I know that but its like people seem to be ok with cops killing people and the corruption in the police system anyways. Its like "well they kill everyone so its ok"

Its baffling to me how people have this blind faith in them

Glad you covered this. My response wouldn't of been as articulate. But yup, that's exactly it. Though, the dude you're talking to isn't gonna use any of this information in the future. He would of learned by now.

It's not even a relevant argument. What matters are how many police shootings are unjustified. In other words how many white people are shot while committing misdemeanors, or doing absolutely nothing illegal? I'd bet it's minuscule compared to the number of black people shot under such circumstances.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

That's true, no one in their right mind uses it that way. Saying that police kill a greater absolute number of white people and more white people than anyone else should lead us all to join hands and go protest outside city hall and our local police stations. But that's not what it does and it's not what it's ended to do. It's a divide and conquer strategy. I think it's right that they don't think about it because like I said, it's a statement that terminates thought. Just like "what about black on black crime" or "police only go after the bad guys".

It's a statement meant to put people in the mindset of not caring about something they should care about. Somehow whites being killed means that there couldn't possibly be racism going on and everything is peachy keen, black on black crime means there couldn't be police brutality and that white people shouldn't care, and police only attack criminals, so no one should think twice about what they do to anyone because the victims must have deserved it.
