Social security is never going to go away

Canceling social security without fully reimbursing everyone who has paid into it and continuing payments towards those already retired would be a justifiable reason to Tar and feather congress.

That's basically saying "Yeah we robbed your future and your grandparents are gonna die poor"

Give me my thousands of stolen dollars back if you want to kill SS.

No but it will be heavily cut. People these days can barely survive on it having to live in low income housing and never spending on pleasures. What's going to happen when they cut a percentage of it along with inflation increasing over the years while wages continue to stagnate?

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses. Anyone, especially millenials expecting a piece of that SS pie by the time they retire are going to be in for a rude awakening, so the sooner the better in my opinion.

And a bit more money I can start pocketing and investing towards my retirement.

This is one of my biggest fears. I dont think it will go away, but at the very least it will be changed. 2019 supposedly was the first year that there was more money going out than in so checks will have to be reduced or taxes go up. One of the biggest reasons to properly tax the ultra rich since that means that well be poorer than our parents if we dont properly invest in 401ks and IRAs...which is a luxury of the middle and high class anyway. Having 401k on a low paying job wont get you that far unless you invest a hefty chunk of your salary.

Id be pretty fucked. I have a lot of family to lean on, but Id rather be a burden on the government. They get a lot of the money back anyway. Not that I'm not helpful enough to my family to make it worth it for them. I don't wanna lose my house and independence. Well...as much independence as I can claim in my situation

Social security has been on death row since the mid 80's (due to eventual and now current unsustainability), if Trump doesn't do it, some other president will do it.

They could remove the Cap on income(137K is the max currently IIRC) subject to social security tax.

Privatized retirement savings funds are already a thing. And they'd give you a much better "return" on your savings than social security does.
