As a classical musician, I totally agree. A lot of Classical musicians show a lot of elitism. I can only really speak for the fans (the musicians I've seen seem more down to earth, perhaps humbled by how hard their job is), but I get a bit tired of how sterile the format is expected to be, and also how many seem to take it as confirmation of their intelligence that they like classical music over say, hip hop. I'll be honest and say that I generally don't like piano/violin duets because they always seem to be transcribed performance pieces instead of something actually intended to be played that way (as in, "here's an excuse to play the Carmen Fantasy, isn't the violinist clever"), so it was nice to hear something actually written for it. He will probably be buried with Wagner and Tchaikovsky cds. Ive gotten a pretty solid listening education from baroque 1685 post (the big year) to a cap off with early Soviet composers. Never pursued listening to much classical outside of that time frame.
