All you'll ever really get out of an estate tax is Jeff Bezos dying "penniless", while family farms become subdivisions.

It only effects people with estates worth over about $11.5 million. And anyone worth that kinda money deserves to pay the tax if they werent smart enough go through some estate planning with a CPA to get around it.

There are perfectly legal ways to get around it through gifting and trusts.

You can gift $15,000 to a person each year without being taxed (and you can gift to as many people as you like), so some rich people will start gifting to their children (and other friends/family) earlier on to get as much out of that as possible.

Donations to charities can be done tax free.

The exact rules in trusts are a bit out of my grasp, but there are absolutely ways to go about it to avoid the estate tax.

The money was taxed when it was earned. Estate taxes are even more theft than normal taxes.

Estate taxes are best taxes.

You can't take it with you.

The money is changing hands, and is therefore allowable to be taxed.
