so that's why they're getting rid of them? permanently?

Well awhile back when the whole Floyd Protests were in full swing they stopped/his the comments sections on any 'racially charged' articles, but now they are back up.

Me for one find some of the comments entertaining as hell..of course you have your typical keyboard racists there but they can easily be ignored, IMO

Good. Facebook needs to follow suit.

But this IS the internet now, isn't it? And it would mean that others would read the comments, and would further make statements there themselves.

Of course, you hate hearing what others have to say, since it contradicts your own narrative, yet you want to read news in your own echo-chamber, without having to be exposed to anything that challenges or contradicts what the articles state.

Of course, you also believe that news media is the sole authority on truth and facts, instead of being a propaganda outlet on what their political stances state.
