This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

For Daffy Duck I will say High Fodder. While not as iconic as Bugs, Daffy is pretty popular in his own right, mostly as a foil to Bugs. He has Space Jam like other Looney Tunes, but also got some of his own games and a popular spinoff in Duck Dodgers.

Nurse Joy feels to me like a character who will get all of her strength from the Pokemon anime, since she really doesn't do anything besides run the Centers in the games. I'll say Mid Fodder for her purely due to the waifu potential, which Brock likely inspired in viewers with his own infatuation with Joy.

I will say Low Fodder for Serena. Unless I'm missing something that would make her a fan favorite, she seems like a fairly standard JRPG healer/bard and doesn't stand out much to me.

Daffy Duck (Looney Tunes) - Mid fodder

About as well known as Bugs but much less iconic. I don't think Looney Tunes matter much to people at this point beyond nostalgia and icon/historic value and they've got like no historically notable games. I feel people probably still like Daffy enough to get his past low anyways, especially if Bugs is Fodder Line, but not sure about Looney Tunes beyond him.

Nurse Joy (Pokmon) - Mid fodder

Recognizable but the amount people that care should be pretty low. Also not sure if any Pokemon Center employees are ever referred to as Joy in any games? She might end up having to appear as "Nurse" or "Receptionist" or something,

best I could quickly find for a character poll other than that she wasn't in on the top 5 of the Famitsu poll (but that's only Japanese fans).

Maybe that's not fully representative but I feel like if she was worth something she shouldn't be getting beaten down quite that badly?

Agreed with Axem. Though we are filled with old people who would likely be pretty familiar with Looney Tunes, it's really fallen by the wayside in recent years in terms of mainstream popularity. I can think of a couple decently liked games Bugs is the main character of but can't for Daffy so overall I'm inclined to think Daffy would be a lot weaker than Bugs.

I'll also agree with Axem, though I think there might be one more Looney Tunes character worth something in these contests beyond Bugs and Daffy.

For what it's worth, Famitsu did run a poll specifically sampling DQ fans outside of Japan: https://www.famitsu.com/news/202001/11190471.html Serena placed 7th there with 237 votes (versus 500+ for the top four), which I'm saying here in order to avoid the spoilers at that point in the article. That basically makes Serena equivalent to Rosa Farrell without nostalgia or notable TJF, so a respectable Low Fodder seems right.

Also, rerank Indiana Jones. My ranking a long while ago was wishful thinking for a character who has a few notable games, none of which voters will care a bit about, and a relevant trio of movies that aren't quite iconic enough to offset their age here.
