I can't stand the Joycons. Luckily I only have one game that requires Joycons, everything else I use the Pro Controller or the Gamecube controller with the adapter.

I've had 4 or 5 joycon analog sticks go bad on me so far
First set, both were badly drifting by the time I sent them in for free service under warranty.
The second instance it was just the left, and I replaced the analog stick myself. Third time, I flung the badly drifting joycon which was screwing me up in all kinds of ways to the ground, snapping off the stick, which surprised me as I didn't think I tossed it with much force, at which point I shelved it and its partner and unboxed a set I had in reserve for when the current set failed me.

When the third set started acting up, the right stick this time, I replaced that analog stick with a fresh one, cleaned up the malfunctioning right stick and used it to replace the snapped stick in my second set, bringing me up to two functional pairs of joycons. Some months later the left joycon of the second developed a problem. I tried replacing the stick, to no avail. After some experimentation I determined it was a signal failure; it worked just fine when connected, but worthless even inches away. Soldering a wire onto the antenna did nothing. There was damage to the circuit board, a tiny IC had broken off. I scrapped it for parts.

Most recently, my currently active set has mild drift in the left stick, I have a new, barely used blue/yellow set, and a repair kit with 4 new analog sticks at the ready for when things get bad.

The joycons are a real nice piece of tech, it's a real shame Nintendo can't seem to get the manufacturer of the analog sticks to fix the faulty design of the one part that's holding them back.

I rarely use the joycons anymore. I had a slight drifting problem before, but nothing too bad. But it was only on one of the two sets of joycons I have. But I have two other controllers I use more... And a third controller I don't use as much...

I have the same issue with my PS4 controller as well. It just moves without me touching it. I have to reset it multiple times before it stops but after awhile, it starts again. I hope Sony remedies this with the PS5.

I play in docked mode almost always and use a PowerA controller.

But there are times I might want to take it on the go in the future. And I'm worried at that point I'll discover I have this drifting issue, but it'll have been years since I bought the console and Nintendo won't consider it under warranty even though I've barely touched the damn joycons...

You probably don't have to worry. Joycon drift is generally a result of wear and tear, so without use, they probably won't go bad for a good while, and when they do, Nintendo offers free service free of charge. At least, I know they do in the US, but IIRC, they've been extending that policy to other areas as well.

I hope nintendo gets the fuck sued out of them so hard for these pile of shit controllers that it sets the launch of the next console back 3 years

fuck joycons and fuck nintendo for doing almost nothing about it

think of all the parents that know nothing about technology that bought switches for their kids only for this shit to happen to like 90% of them
theyre gonna think twice before buying another defective ass nintendo product
