Voter suppression in my opinion has been a real issue since passage of the Voting Rights Act in the 1960s because a certain faction in America simply do not want non-Whites voting or participating in the election process. No one ever mentioned a word about Voter Ids until Obama became president. Voter fraud isn't nearly as big an issue as ome make it out to be. What people don't understand is that Voter ID laws become even more challenging for people who vote by mail.

You can, but statistically you're far less likely to, and it's an extra hoop to jump through that is significantly more difficult for certain populations. It exists to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Unless people are willing to make getting an ID significantly easier or prove that it benefits the electoral process (the opposite of these have been done), they shouldn't be allowed to implement these rules.

Sorry - if you don't have some kind of ID (driver's license, social security card, passport, etc) how are you doing anything in this world?

It isn't unreasonable to ask for an ID to prove you are who you say you are. That isn't voter suppression. If anything, it helps (not very much though) suppress voter fraud.

A lot of people don't have an ID (disproportionately the poor and minorities). That's a fact.

Again - not unreasonable to require it. Military ID, Tribal ID card, Student ID card - there are so many options that unless you are homeless and on the street there is almost no reason to not have something apart from laziness.

Had my ID renewed a couple weeks ago. I think it was $12.

repubs know they cant win elections without suppressing a fuck load of minority votes. its disgusting that theyre even allowed to do it. Im not talking about asking for ID (which Ive never been asked for while voting), im talking about red states that shut down 90% of polling places in counties with a bunch of non-white people. these people that are burning down buildings should redirect their focus onto the people that are pulling this shit.

the whole id thing is stupid. When they go and count the votes, they verify whether or not you are a registered voter or not so checking IDs is a complete waste of time and only prevents registered voters from actually voting.

Requiring people to register to be able to vote is the actual voter suppression.
