First of all, preserving the meaning of words is indeed important. Pedophilia is very much defined as specifically targeting prepubescent children.

Second, a lot of us say that to argue pedophiles should be treated even worse than those who lewd teenagers. As in, pedophiles should be treated more harshly than they are now. And that lumping lewding a 17 years and 364 days old girl with lewding a 7 year old girl is helping normalize pedophilia by making it seem less severe than it really is.

It's hebephilia by the way. Lewding underage teenagers is hebephilia. It's gross and dumb, but not nearly as gross and dumb as pedophilia.

Or to get to the heart of the matter, hebephilia was normal for 99% of human history (keep in mind we evolved around the basis of much lower life expectancy) and we decided it was wrong because teenage mothers kept dying during childbirth. Pedophilia straight up goes against the law of nature and most other species have much stronger means of shutting that shit down entirely.

Nah, its no meme. I saw plenty of people trying to justify the actions of the Smash players who got outed recently. Particularly the normalisation of statutory rape of teenagers, usually going hand in hand with the akshually, its hebephilia brigade.

The only people who care about the difference between paedophiles and hebephiles fall into one of those categories.

And in regards to the Smash issue specifically, it's important to know the difference to understand how this shit keeps happening. Teenagers can get lured into this because teenagers are horny. That's a very important distinction towards addressing the issue.

I know 14 year old me would certainly think the idea of traveling around with a 24 year old woman and having sex and playing Smash is awesome. But 7 year old me would think sex is gross.
