She got really mad at me and hung up the phone.

You see, shes strongly republican so hates NY (and entire northeast) and CA (and entire west coast) passionately. So everything must suck terribly and be overblown about these places.

I dont believe what anything online says, Ive lived there (35 years ago)

I should call and apologize and make something up about her being right so shes happy again because I feel bad for upsetting my parent over something silly :(

Yeah...cousin got a job that pays 50k and her bf has a job that pays like 30k in CA (not in Bay Area or LA), and she was trying to tell me its literally impossible for a couple to live in CA on 80k.

Milk prices mostly correlate with how remote a community is.

A 4L jug of milk is about $4.50 where I live in southern Alberta. In northern Alberta, I've heard it's closer to $8. In Iqaluit, Nunavut, it's over $15.

There's no way milk prices are high in the most populated state in the USA.

My hardcore republican aunt was ranting about mail-in voting, like it was being forced on us. "I want to vote in person!" And I said she can still vote in person, that voting by mail is optional. She insisted her rights were being taken away by her governor (Northam, Virginia) and I asked her for a source because I could find nothing to corroborate her claim, and it became this whole thing.

We went back and forth on this, with me repeatedly asking for a link to a source, and she either couldn't or wouldn't provide one. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. I don't live in Virginia, and she mentioned a press conference of Northam's that I cannot locate, and I told her I've made a half dozen different searches and everything I find points to mail-in voting being optional in Virginia.

Her last message was that my mistake was searching mainstream media, to which I requested she provide a link from any site of her choice that she trusts as reputable and verifiable. Hasn't responded back yet.

It's frustrating because I'm giving her every chance to back up her claim, and she's getting more and more combative over it and making it sound like I'm a jerk for asking her to legitimize her rant.

I lived in California most my life and was there up until a week ago. While you certainly *could* find some organic non-homogenized milk in a glass bottle at your your local "health food" store that's $8, the average consumer in CA is definitely not paying that much for milk.

I mean if you can provide her proof it's optional to vote then she's just wasting your time. My old man only hears what he wants to hear despite proof online saying otherwise. I've stopped taking him seriously.

Yeah it's sad because while I feel she's wrong here, I'm giving her a ton of opportunity to prove otherwise. If she wants to criticize my choice in media (and I provided links to 5 different sites, including Virginia's own gov't site), and claim I'm being manipulated by the very same "liberal media", then provide me a source you trust! How hard is that?

Sorry you're not getting on with your old man, though. Hope the relationship is solid outside his selective hearing.
