Jake's okay. Is he a multiversal demigod like Anna? Is he just her completely normal boyfriend? We may never know. In FE11 he's a Ballistician which is the most fun class in that, and possibly any, FE. I'm giving him points for the sheer joy of it, I don't know or care if he's actually good or not.

Lachesis is one of my favorite characters from Genealogy. She's kind of a tragic figure but also has some fairly amusing lines, so she strikes a weird balance. But it works.

Sophia is completely worthless as a unit. I used her and let me say that she didn't even end up particularly special despite the insane amount of grinding she required. As a character she's fine, she's the demure dragon type that contrasts with the more playful Fa, but she never gets enough spotlight to really become anything special.

Renault is lowkey the best character in FE7, with some very interesting connections to the plot and to the other characters, though it requires digging to find. As a unit there's inherent value in a prepromote with staff ranks, but there's no real reason to field Renault instead of Pent, and that's ignoring that Renault's availability is atrocious and that you get Athos minutes later.

I don't have much to say about Cherche! Her outfit design is fuckin' dumb for a soldier but I'd like it a lot if she was like an NPC noble or something where it would make sense. She's less goofy than most Awakening characters but it doesn't really work out in her favor, especially because she still has a dumb gimmick (Minerva) on top of it.

Dimitri has some of the better character development in the FE series. You can see hints of his facade starting to crack during part 1 and then it all breaks over the timeskip, and it takes an almost agonizingly long time for him to rebuild himself as a person during part 2. But ultimately the AM story is all about Dimitri, so I like that they gave it a slow burn. He's a shit-wrecker as a unit but his unique classes are boring. Also, reclassing him can be a little difficult because he's unteachable for a long time in part 2. Ultimately he's still quite good but when I compare him to someone like Claude... eh.

SD Jake is the godly Ballistician class which automatically makes him great because 10 range can break the game sometimes. Then in NM you don't get to have artillery anymore and he becomes yet another "I die to everything and do nothing" shitter. Lachesis doesn't do much at first but you're reliant on her promoted self to get shit done in chapters 4 and 5 since she's the only healer that can keep up. Sophia is, of course, a useless piece of shit. She's awful to the point that she'd still be terrible if she joined in chapter 1 instead of chapter 14. She doesn't even amount to anything noteworthy if trained. Renault is a nice utility unit but his availability is awful and you likely don't have room for him. Cherche is a generic Awakening unit. Dimitri is great.

Jake is an example as to why the player doesn't get siege weapons very often, because they're pretty OP if you have a guy who can do it all the time.

Lachesis is one of the few units in the series that start off weak that are actually worth the payoff. Plus, since she can uses staves as a princess, it's not too hard to get her to promote. The hardest part is probably getting her enough money to repair warp and return, since she's not that great in the arena. Charisma is a nice skill to have on a frontliner like Lachesis is after promotion, but unfortunately it doesn't affect her. Her promotion bonuses are insane and make up for her subpar growths, putting her as one of your strongest units by the end of gen 1.

Sophia, however, is an example of a unit that starts off weak that isn't worth using. Those bases would be bad in chapter 1, and she joins in chapter 14. She has growths comparable to Raigh, who joins earlier with better bases, so you can't even call her an Est. She's forced in chapter 14, so you might as well bring her along to get the guiding ring, then stick her so deep in the bench that you never have to look at her again.

Renault joins super late and his magic base is terrible. He can use fortify, but so can Pent and Athos, and they'll heal a lot more with it. His other bases are decent so he can fill in as a healer for the final chapter, but the main reason to recruit him is for his fortify staff.

Cherche's a decent flier, but she joins a little late for me to rank her any higher. She's good, but she's not going to trivialize the game like Miledy.

Dimitri is one of the best units in TH. His personal lance's skill giving him effective damage over everything is amazing, and lets him delete almost anything on the field. His biggest flaw is his bane in axes, which means it's going to be hard to make him a flier. I also wish his unique class would give him a horse, but you can just stick him in a mounted class instead.
