Lots of action cartoons and Shonen really take fire for granted. Fire is one of the most destructive and chaotic things out there. Just a lick of flame can do major bodily harm to a normal person or begin a massive fire destroying countless buildings and infrastructure. But it gets portrayed as a dull energy blast or something.

Honestly out of the four elements earth should probably be the worst to get hit by. We see like maybe one death caused by earthbending in the original series, but the kill count should be way higher.

Movies, tv, and games have a bad habit of making fire out to be way weaker than it is, yeah. It's always shown in a way that...as long as you're not touching the actual flame, you're fine. But try holding your hand 2 inches above a candle and see how 'okay' your hand is.

A flash of fire may be okay. Like, you can pass your finger or hand through a flame and be fine. It's sustained, constant flame/heat that's the real damage dealer.

Scientifically speaking, a fire power isn't that feasible to begin with. Oxygen isn't flammable, it is an oxidizer, meaning it'll react with a flame but you can't start and fuel a fire using only oxygen, you need fuel. Different fuels burn at different temperatures, and googling "what temp does oxygen burn at" won't give you an answer. So in theory, if someone has a fire power, the most they can do is use all the surrounding oxygen in a flash, which in itself won't do that much damage (which also prompts the question of why wouldn't the entire atmosphere ignite.) The most damage would come from the suffocation from lack of oxygen or setting their clothes on fire.

One of the most probable fire powers I've seen is Bakugo in My Hero Academia. He literally sweats fuel. No idea how he ignites it without a special suit/device, but hey, at least he has fuel.

Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist use alchemy to change the air into a combustible gas. He then creates a spark with a specially made glove.

He's actually a good response to this topic too. FMA doesn't shy away from just how horrific and powerful a fire "superpower" would be. It's virtually impossible to kill the regenerating Homunculi for anyone else. Mustang is able to effortlessly kill two.
