if he picks the right person, no. it wasn't about those other 2 being women. they just were not liked. Hillary was not ever that popular. and Palin was a joke that turned Alaska into a laughingstock. we still are trying to recover from the stereotype that she depicted to the lower 48.

Even if McCain hadn't picked Palin he still would have lost. The Iraq War was super unpopular, Bush was super unpopular, the recession killed their chances, and it's not like the base of the GOP really liked McCain anyway.

The best thing Biden could do is resign in his inaugural speech.

There are many men who would vote against a female presidential candidate, but would not go out of their way to vote against a female vice presidential candidate since she's still technically second place behind a man. If Biden stepped down after winning, he could circumvent that misogyny and force America to contend with a female president.

Much like integration and marital equality, it's not a matter of America being "ready" to do the right thing. Unlike those things, the presidency is put to a vote. I hate to see it won this way, but a Trojan horse victory for a female candidate would be the best way to guarantee a female president.

Why is it important? Why not simply let the best man (er, best person) win? Because some people have greater opposition than others on account of race, sex, or other statuses. I'd rather go ahead and gift someone the presidency to insure future candidates have a realistic fighting chance than to continue to make the presidential race a gentleman's contest exclusively.
