CapnMuffin 08/11/20 2:48:12 PM #1:	Quick background. This is from one of my clients who is a pulmonologist at a major midwest hospital and applies to their limited yet firsthand scope. Take it as you will. > At the hospital actual cases are way down. From 100+ a few months ago to about 5. > For reporting... Every covid test is treated as a new case of the virus. So lets say Joe gets tested. Thats reported as a case. Now Joe is quarantined from work for 14 days. He really wants to get back to his job so he goes everyday to receive a free test. Each one of those tests is also counted as a new instance. > When someone is seriously injured or DOA they are tested for covid at the hospital. If the patient tests positive but dies due to their injuries the report includes it is a covid related death. > They agree with the suspicion its been around awhile (USA) as they have had quite a number of patients with serious respiratory problems that stumped traditional diagnosis as far back as January. > They agree that the threat to children and healthy individuals is there but minimal. And in the case of young children they are at slightly higher risk of serious illness complications from the flu than covid (while keeping in mind this is going off current data which for covid is relatively brief). > They agree the biggest vulnerability (and failure on our part) are nursing homes. My biggest takeaway here was the apparent poor (intentional?) clerical work around reporting numbers. --- Parent or parent-to-be?
