Humanity will definitely go extinct, but since we'd still be able to communicate, I imagine enough of us will make the journey to a central location and form humanity's last enclave. We'd probably call it GFNW or something.

From a purely mathematical perspective, we could repopulate the planet. Over 600 unique users have been active on the board over the last three months. If 25% of us are married/dating, with 1 child on average, we'd have 900 humans to start from. Studies say you need 50 couples and 500 total individuals to prevent inbreeding, so we'd comfortably reach those boundaries.

From a logistics standpoint of, could we get enough people together... I still think we could pull it off, at least in North America. Traveling by car would be difficult with all the stranded cars on the highways but eventually we should be able to get everyone together.

food is pretty much a nonissue in this scenario. who needs ulti and his impeccable hunting skills when you can raid any military base/surplus store/warehouse for a lifetime supply of MREs that will remain good for longer than you will. there are probably enough reservoirs of drinking water to make that a safe bet too.

future generations are pretty screwed though unless any of us care to play farming simulator irl. who has time for that though?

I think we all could survive with food and a lot of time to think, but if it were up to me, there's no "need" to rebuild the population. Just live the rest of your life, if you'd like, and then after, human civilization would just end there.

As far as traveling across the sea goes, Alaksa and Russia might be able to serve as the safest way to cross, because the shortest distance apart is 55 miles with some islands around which would diminish the risk of being stranded at sea

I'm pretty sure inbreeding is more of a statistical risk than an absolute one anyway.

If you have a very small amount of breeding pairs left you can just kinda hope that no one's genes will mix up in a very bad way.
