A recent trend in beer is places adding large amounts of fruit pure to a sour base beer, making a beer that has the thick consistency similar to bottled smoothies.

personally I think theyre usually very good, even great from the right brewers

Eh. Not for me. I don't think beer should have a fruity taste to it (not gonna touch the consistency aspect), but to each his own.

Two of my local liquor stores have these insanely dangerous smoothies, they use hard liquor tho. One of those things gets me fuckin wrecked now that my tolerance is so low.

A good sour on it's own is enough. They are very hit or miss tho. Would never want my beer to be a thick consistency unless it's like a michelada or something, which is still not really thick.

Ill give two reasons macro beers still have a fairly solid market with guys:
1) just cheaper, especially domestic in a can
2) drinking 6-8 4.2% abv beers is very different than drinking 3-4 7% beers. That abv difference is a significant hurdle if light beers are your go to
