In early March, many people (not me), left NYC when they felt it would provide safety from the virus and they no longer needed to go to work and all the restaurants were closed. People figured, Ill get out for a month or two and then come back.

They are all still gone.

And then in June, during rioting and looting, a second wave of NYCers (this time including me) left. I have kids. Nothing was wrong with the protests but I was a little nervous when I saw videos of rioters after curfew trying to break into my building.

Many people left temporarily but there were also people leaving permanently. Friends of mine moved to Nashville, Miami, Austin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas, etc.

There's a legitimate risk that NY might flip to red this coming election. People are fleeing their home cities and those who are staying are going to use their votes to fight back against today's culture. And there was this unverified tweet that Biden has been pumping NY with ads because their internal polls said they were only 5% ahead of Trump.

I'm seriously considering putting $5K down on betting on Trump to take NY.

Notice how the narrative from the left is "lives vs property", as though it's a choice that has to be made.

I do hate how anyone concerned about destruction is said to care more about property then lives and that everything is insured.

Ooor I just really dont think Fire is a toy and dont want people burning things down and that a lot of small businesses( including those of POC) have been destroyed in the crossfire and lives put at risk.

Black lives matter. Doesnt mean I and others are morally obligated to just lay down and take whatever punishment a mob decides we deserve. A good cause can do bad things or have bad actors infiltrate or take advantage of it.

Also yeah this,

I dont really care about it happening to Walmart or actual big business beyond the risk of fire spreading or hurting an innnocent...but small businesses often arent insured and its still a devasting blow, Insurance wont bring back your customers or employees months or years later after you rebuild/relocate.Depending on the terms it may or may not cover all damage or even any if your contract was particularly shitty/misleading. You may have debt and bills NOW that cant wait for the insurance process to go through and revenue to come back.

Rioters arent going around verifying you have insurance or verifying if the business is POC owned or a Small Buisness before going to town.
