Gold is an award to gift to other people if you like their post, click the little present box by their post.

Coins are used to buy more gold (and other awards) should youbcant to gift others. It gives 2 weeks of reddit premium as well, not that that's even remotely worth it.

Honestly the entire system is stupid, why the fuck would I spend money to give a stranger a meaningless coin gift?
