for the US release they wanted to make it look less like a computer I think. the only problem i have with the Famicom is the wired controllers. they are way too short and you can't change them. it's just stuck permanently. apparently Japanese kids sit very close to the tv

They designed the NES with the VCR player in mind. Subconsciously we'd be more comfortable with something we were familiar with.

Originally it was going to be published by Atari, but Atari had no money left after the videogame crash of 1983 so Nintendo decided to publish it themself.

It was designed to look like a VCR/computer because the video game crash of 83 led people to distrust video game systems so they had to market it more like a toy or vcr or computer

The reason they scrapped it was because Nintendo reread the contract and discovered that Sony would own the rights to the games they would release on the Snes CD, which was a nono.
They tried to revive it with Philips but it was too late in the Snes lifetime.

I hate how the snes looks. No way to express it. Something about the shape.

I love the super fami though. Stylish and round with some colors on it on top the basic grey and purple.

That was the best option at the time. Wireless controllers would have been similar to old tv remotes where if it isn't pointed straight at the sensor then it can't be read. There was one of those Genesis classic systems released several years ago with that exact problem, and I went out and bought wired controllers for it lol

Well, No, I wouldn't say that. People were already very familiar with video game consoles. It was shaped like a VCR so you WOULDN'T associate it with a video game console you were familiar with.

I had these for the NES. I honestly don't remember any problems with them. I mean, your eyeballs are already pointed at the TV anyway. They had a wide beam so it's not like you had to be pointed directly at the sensor or anything. But I was 10, so it's not like I was testing for input lag or anything.

Hardwired was bad, because the cord was stuck directly into the console.
Normally wired is good, because you can add an extension cord.
