Today in wisconsin, the republican led legislature refused to discuss or take up police reform bills proposed by the governor

https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/514442-wisconsin-gop-refuse-to-attend-special-session-to-discuss-police-reform

its nuts you me that we have a system of government where, because one party has the majority, they can just choose to completely ignore bills.

weve seen this federally as Moscow Mitch the Bitch McConnell has refused to take up many bills passed by the house, effectively leaving them dead in the water

of course many of them are popular bills so republicans dont want to stain their records by voting no... so they just ignore it

how can a government possibly function this way?

Not to defend it, but is there really any difference between allowing a vote that the majority party votes overwhelmingly against and the majority party just not considering said topic?

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

Putting it on the record that those legislators are against bills with majority public support

If people don't care about them explicitly not voting on this bill they won't care about them voting no either.

Theres also the fact that republicans in the senate only have a slight majority, so realistically all it takes is for 3 senators to not vote along party lines

the fact that one (non-elected!) person can just block that vote is non-sensical

So then it's a good tactic on the majority's part?

And all the minority needs to do is stress how they're blocking votes on said topic anyway, so it's still the same thing basically. All this really does is prevent a defection or two.

It doesnt seem like a tactic that should exist

this is what Im saying

there should be some way to force a vote on bills. A party shouldnt just be able to functionally kill them by ignoring them

Actually this is incorrect

in wisconsin, the governor has the power to call a special legislative session, which he did here, and which he has done a few times recently

however, he doesnt have the power to make the legislature actually do anything, which means the republicans just gavel in, then gavel out, for less than a 30 second session.

the bucks protest was saying hey, dont do the thing youve always done when these special sessions are called

instead, they did the thing theyve always done
