Avowed is a Elder Scrolls clone being made right now that might release around the same time as Elder Scrolls 6 and compete. Made by the company that made the Pillars of Eternity pc rpgs. And set in the same universe

Do you think Elder Scrolls will get dethroned?

The only reason TES is as popular as it is, besides the mods, is the fact that it fills a niche in the gaming genre. So if anyone makes a reasonable game similar in scope to it but with better writing and more engaging gameplay then yeah it would be dethroned.

Way too early to tell.

I think Avowed will be closer to Starfield's release more than Elder Scrolls 6.

It would be nice if someone made bethesda like games with a deeper scope and better plotlines and missions.

These games seem like they must take a lot of work, but back in the day obsidian managed to knock one out pretty quick. Not really sure why more companies don't try, especially with the long droughts beth conveniently provides.

I still have fond memories of Bethesda so I hope they succeed

Like the first time I popped on Oblivion, like tf - that was nuts.. then FO3 and NV (I got the limited edition with poker chips looool)

It's much more easy and casual than a game like.. The Witcher 3 or whatever open world games with wayyyy too much 'serious' content. What Bethesda does right they do right. They just haven't done much right these past couple of years :(

Obsidian managed to knock one out quick because they worked on the foundation Bethesda already set. Same engine and everything.

As much as people whine about Bethesda's game engine nothing else out there has really replicated what those games have been able to do.

How do the general lore and racial backgrounds stack up in the Avowed (Pillars of Eternity) universe compared to the Elder Scrolls' one? I've only played games from the latter, and it's very easy to digest the various Men and Mer races, their histories, and the Daedra/Aedra.

Very true for gamebyro or whatever it's called and obsidian's partnership with bethesda.

But who else has really tried?

Didn't the primary writer of TES lore write most of it on acid.

ES6 will give us more of the same. Some people will call it the best thing since Skyrim, but a lot of people will just point the game out for being too "safe" and playing too much like another Skyrim.

Avowed may be a "clone" but many so-called clones have gone on to stand on their own two feet, like the Saints Row, Crackdown, Skate, Dirt, Forza, and so many others.

But who else has really tried?

Outside of stuff made on Bethesda's engine including New Vegas and fan mods there hasn't been anything that has been released no. It's possible developers have tried projects that have never went off the ground.

Considering modders can make impressive expansions using Skyrim I think that engine gives them the advantage. They have built on top of it for 20 years now. It's way harder to start from scratch or try work with an engine that doesn't have the stuff in their games in mind. Bioware games tried to make their style of games on DICE's engine and even that was very difficult. Bethesda's games are way more complicated with their AI characters having routines and every object in the game being interactable. Some games have one or the other but I can't think of any that do both in an open world.

Maybe next gen with the better CPU's and the like make it more possible and easier to do. It wouldn't surprise me if Avowed still doesn't have a lot of the stuff found in Bethesda's games.

After thinking about it for a bit (and not being able to remember the name for the life of me), kingdom come deliverance probably comes the closest to what I have seen.

It isn't nearly as smooth or polished as elder scrolls or fallout, which is funny as hell when you think of it, but it tries many of the same things and mostly succeeds imo. That is about it as far as I can recall.

I really don't know how object permanence and and discreet items in the game world effect the engine. There aren't many companies that give it a shot. Most likely trying to convert an engine used in fps or action games is not a good idea, and hasn't seemed to work well for most companies.

Something like a sim would probably be the best shot, then they would have to try to layer combat and movement on top of that.

Mods for TES6 will be exclusive to Bethesda's store and they will cost money.

the only way they could do that is if they gate the creation kit behind some form of paywall, and it would absolutely kill the game if they did that.

Yeah that probably is the closest game that chases it.

I suppose the big thing stopping it is that it's a very expensive and risky game to make for AAA developers. Most games that take like 5 years to develop are established franchises these days.

I have only played a little of the first Pillars. I need to play more of it sometime soon. But I did make a character and they have some interesting races and gods and stuff. Here is link about their races

https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Races

They have one called Godlike, which are people touched by the gods and depending on the culture they can be considered blessed or cursed. And they have different kinds based on different elements i think

It's way too early to tell tbh.

We know nothing about Avowed, other than being set in Pillar's world and having a first person perspective at some point. And after the failed hype of their "Fallout Killer" gonna wait until I actually know anything first.

Still very interested though as love the Pillars universe.
