That episode pisses me off to this day. You don't get to "go on a break" and expect your SO not go fuck someone else. If he(or she) isnt getting it from you it isnt fair to expect them to not go and get it from someone else.

Did Rachel suggest the broke? If so then Ross was right. If he asked for Break while still technically right it is a lot more if if.

I don't remember much about that show.. not one of the ones that I watched, but Joey seem to be a better fit for her.

Not necessarily. Both were in the wrong but Ross started it. Ever since Mark was introduced Ross was insanely jealous of the man. When Rachel got busier at work Ross was under the assumption Mark was an influence and trying to get in her pants. We even saw in one episode that Mark had a girlfriend already. Ross would decorate Rachel's office area, send her a barber shop quartet, and in the case of this episode a full picnic at her desk with candles and more which then leads to this video.

Rachel wanted the break, but then Mark came over. When they spoke on the phone and Ross heard Mark's voice he assumed Rachel was about to sleep with him. Chloe made advances and he tried to resist but Ross ultimately slept with her. Ross tried to hide it afterward and eventually Rachel heard about it through Gunther.

Both were in the wrong. For starters, they should've made it more clear exactly what was going on. Ross was under the impression they had split up, while Rachel seemed like she just didn't want to talk to him for a few hours. Better communication would've gone a long way there.

And yeah, Ross cheated. He only did because he thought he was free to do so (plus spite from thinking she was doing the same thing), however.

Ross is justified for sleeping around. Rachel sabotaged her own relationship and is mainly at fault. People do this stupid shit all the time and just blame the other, selfishly don't accept responsibility for their own faults or shortcomings, or are somehow oblivious to them.

Regardless, you don't lie to your SO and just be honest about the situation if nothing really is going on. Rachel doing otherwise just justified Ross' uncertainty and doubt which lead to him sleeping around.

Still is a lie, about someone her SO is apprehensive about no less. No matter how you try to downplay it and hand waive it off it's fucked up and wrong even if she had no ulterior motive for doing so. Rachel sabotaged her own relationship and only has herself to blame.

Ross was the one who sabotaged that relationship. After weeks/months of being irrationally jealous of Mark, he ignores her when she says she's having a major issue at work. He rolls into the office and makes an ass of himself. He ignores her again when she says she doesn't have any time to spare, asking her secretary if she has time. Then he gets mad when she tells him to leave. Later, he dismisses it as "just a job" and then asks if the argument is really about Mark. That's what prompts her to ask for a break.

Mark comes over because he calls and hears Rachel almost in tears. Ross hears his voice over the phone, Rachel tells this "horrible" lie to try and keep the peace, then tries to explain what he's doing there, but Ross gets pissed off and slams the phone down. Then he goes on to fuck Chloe, the copy girl.

The most blame you can put on Rachel is that she wasn't giving Ross a lot of attention because she was trying to do well at her dream job.

lol please, spare me. No matter how you try to defend Rachel from the brunt of the fault you're wrong. You understand the definition of a lie right? And despite that it was a small one and she admitted to it right afterward, what really was the straw that broke the camel's back was that it invovled Mark. Despite all of the other bullshit Rachel put Ross through up until that point and on their anniversary no less. At least he tried numerous times to make amends. Ross is justified.
