This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

"Your daddy screamed reaaaaaaaaaaal good before he DIED!" Pigma has a few memed quotes from SF64 and was a reasonably important character in a few other Star Fox games. But I will say Low Fodder since he just isn't that likable or visually appealing as a character.

I will say Mid Fodder for the Monk. I'm not too familiar with FF1 so I tend to picture Yang when I think about the Monk class, but the actual Monk class from FF1 has more of a blackbelt design. I assume Monk runs would be viable in that game and the Monk class is present in many other games. It is not even restricted to Final Fantasy as Monk is a class in Bravely Default too.

Mid Fodder for Psylocke. She hasn't had too much focus in popular X-Men media, but she is in plenty of games and is a scantily-clad woman with TJF, so she should get some support.

Unlike Thief, FF1 Monk is not terrible. Still a good deal worse than Fighter until endgame grinding though, I dont think theyre an 8-bit theatre favorite, and they dont have the flavor of the Mages.

Psylocke - mid fodder (oops, had low)

I watched X-men Evolution and the live-action movies through The Wolverine and little other X-men media and as a result I barely even know who this is.

but, if Gambit is High Fodder based mostly on 90s era stuff, Ill grudgingly concede her being present in X-men stuff I havent experienced much of (the 90s show, MvC2 and older Capcom vs fighting games) could be worth being above low. TJF always makes giving benefit of the doubt easier of course.

Yeah, I guess I'll side with Mid Fodder for Psylocke. TJF + being a somewhat well-known character from a popular franchise otherwise can do that.

I'll agree with Low Fodder for Pigma and Monk.

I'll also nominate Shazam for reranking. The 2019 movie alone largely came and went with a shrug and is no platform for a main character above Low Fodder - certainly not without truly notable TV or video game appearances, neither of which Shazam has. He's also not a popular enough comic book character for voters to care on that basis.

I kinda suspect Witcher characters might be underrated in light of its strong GotD2 performance and unlike Skyrim people caring about the plot but havent played it so cant really say.

second Walter White nomination and re-rank Shazam. His movie was well-liked but simply didn't have the impact that Wonder Woman or even Aquaman (which is a mediocre at best movie) did. That may speak to Shazam's popularity. The forced name change from Captain Marvel likely won't help matters.
