You could be an absolute loser that worked in a video rental store and still have your own apartment and a car.

I don't know about that. But it was certainly cheaper to just exist back then.

I say this as I'm getting ready to blow several years of life savings to blow on a down payment on a condo just so I don't have to deal with rent.

Congrats. Home owning takes a load off.

Thank you!

I'm certainly hoping it's the best decision. A mortgage is really expensive, but I'm hoping it's worth it in the end.

I was a kid back then, but I felt like it was before the damage of the 80s really kicked and wealth inequality skyrocketed.

Now everything is coming to roost.

I feel bad for Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

They are screwed.

Government was a lot smaller back then therefore there was a lot less inflation. For example in 1998 the federal budget was $1.69 trillion and the federal debt was $5.47 trillion.

Today the federal budget is $4.4 trillion and the federal debt is $25 trillion, so government in about 22 years grew over 3 times. Back in the 90s they used to have big-macs on sale for 89 cents. A cheeseburger today cost over $1.39 in California, and a big-mac is $5.80 just for one. When government grows through massive increases in spending, taxes, and regulations America becomes poorer.

The fact is America is poorer because government is too large. That is why many of our jobs are shipped overseas because businesses don't have to do with relegation's and taxes in countries like Vietnam and China
