How does one become a good imposter? Teach me your ways.

Can't say im good, but knowing where task are and knowing which ones to fake and for how long is a good start. You need to know if visual task are on or not so you dont fake a task they can see. Some advanced lobbies also check to see if the task bar goes up if you do a task.
Obviously knowing were other people are and making sure not to kill with other people around. If somebody recently sees you paired with somebody you kill, they will probably sus you.
Using your sabotages to your advantages can help big time. Sabotaging lights, o2, reactor or coms can prevent emergency meeting. They also help luring people away from bodies and can even win you games some times if they dont fix it.

Most of this stuff is useless for random lobbies though because anything goes.

Also comms is the worst sabotage. Dont even bother with that one. They should honestly buff it (like maybe a body couldnt be reported until comms is fixed)

That'd be pretty cool. Or disable the cameras or admin table if it doesnt do that already. Never actually check those.

Comms disables cams and vitals and it likely also affects the Skeld's room checker and Mira HQ's door log.

Because then they can't sabotage anything else and you can stay clumped without being forced to separate while the imp has to just stand there watching you do tasks. COMMS SUCKS THAT MUCH. Match in Polus started, I was crew. Everyone but brown ran south. Brown went to the keys.

Eventually, a meeting is called.

I ask brown: "Hey, you did keys, right?'

Brown says: "Yes, I did keys"

I call him out as impostor because it is a common task, so everyone would have had it.

Brown said "Fine, I am impostor" and leaves immediately.

Nothing better than asking an impostor to admit they are an impostor before saying they are impostor.

I use the same strategy. There are some imposters that use it more than reactors or O2. Problem is, in random games, people rarely listen or pay attention.

I just had a game where I successfully pointed out who one of the imposters was at the start of the match by his location to a dead body and his behavior patterns. Awesome until I find the next body and I'm booted out because it must be a self report. Why? Because some guy simply said my name and everyone just voted as the discussion time was set to 15 seconds. I swear, some people just hit "vote" as soon as possible when the discussion hasn't moved past "where body".

On the other side of the fence, I had my most satisfying game tonight. Some person was bragging about how good they were at being an imposter (4 out of 10 people left throughout the game). I get imposter and my partner is immediately discovered after botching a kill. Now down to 8 people left including myself. I managed to kill 4 and subtly persuade the others to eject two others, taking out 6 people total. That including convincing the braggart to eject two innocent people.

There's nobody else around in the room or outside of it. Brown immediately reports the body and says I did it. Huh? Why say that or even report the body? Then they ran around the map for 10 minutes until everyone finished tasks. They killed one person so it's not like they weren't playing as imposter. I am so lost as to what was going through that person's head. >_<

Trust exercise I suppose. Probably a super stealthy person who just, no matter what, did not want to get caught, and only acted when they felt 100% safe to kill.

There are tasks like wires and keys, that if YOU have it, EVERYONE has it. Since as crew, I did not have keys, it meant no one playing had keys. If brown was 'doing keys' and I didn't have keys (nor did anyone else), he faked the task. If everyone else went to do the keys, sure. But no one did it because it wasn't generated as a common task for that run.

The problem with discussion time is that it doesn't really matter because you can still talk during voting time.

I prefer a 30s discussion time so people have a chance to say something before they are instavoted.

Too long a of discussion time when everybody just wants to skip is annoying.

I've been catching more people doing that and it's lame. Honor based system doesn't work so well with strangers.

The discussion time is one of the criteria I look at to determine if I'll join. It needs to be at least 30 seconds so people just can't vote as soon as it begins. I'm not sure how those people even know who to vote for as it's often before someone can just toss out a color. It sometimes takes 30 seconds to get through "where body". Plus, mobile users need time to write up replies.

Pretty sure I had a hacker in a game earlier. Every time the discussion ended it would skip the vote entirely, but only after we started suspecting the killer. He ended up winning.
