Yes.

Weirdly, all the info to play CK2 is in the CK1 tutorial... so they really designed the game around people who already played CK1, but CK3 (while still having pretty much no tutorial) lets you start out as more of a blank slate, but with a lot more growth opportunities so that you can learn the events.

...

Still doesn't make much sense, but it makes 'more' sense

I started playing CKIII last week and haven't stopped. I love it so far, and the tutorial this time around is quite decent.

However, I hear if you had EVERY DLC for CKII, CKIII, as of right now, is just a prettier version of CKII+DLC in the base game. I only ever had the Viking DLC (Old Gods), so I am finding a lot of new stuff to dive into that I never got around to in CKII DLC.

Anyway, I like it quite a bit, and I think it is easier to understand than CKII. Of course, you have to think ahead when it comes to heirs and figuring out inheritance, but that is the fun part for me!

To respond to Lokarin's statement about the tutorial...maybe I think this one is decent this time around given CKII's tutorial! :)

It's kinda weird how just a few days ago I'm not sure I'd ever heard of the franchise yet yesterday (or the day before?) I watched a castles video they sponsored (where the game effectively became an unskippable ad -- something I've started to notice more and more on YT) and now I'm seeing topics here of all places. Is it a major franchise or have a lot of people just been inundated by its advertising/marketing campaign?

Zeus, I would say it is a part of a major "umbrella franchise" which Paradox has had going since the early 2000s.

Paradox's "Grand Strategy Family" includes Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis (which is up to EU 4 now), Victoria (last one was #2, but people are hoping for #3 soon), and, finally, Hearts of Iron (up to #4).

At one point, you could play CK1, transfer your save from that game to EU2 and keep playing one, long campaign between multiple games. I can't remember if EU2/3 ever allowed you to transfer to Victoria and then on to the Hearts of Iron series.

But yes, I have been playing this Paradox "family" since 2001 with EU1.

It's always been a fairly well-known franchise if you follow the somewhat niche genre it's part of, but they also pushed for a hard marketing campaign this time around as well. For instance, they gave Spiffing Brit (someone who'd made multiple popular CKII videos) a free pre-release copy and basically paid him to do a video as sort of a stealth ad:

It's a Paradox game, though. And Paradox fans have always been a smaller but kind of fanatical group.

I had trouble getting into CK2, but I loved EU4. I've heard good things about CK3 but haven't decided to give it a shot.

Hmmm Paradox is a big name in the world of "Grand Strategy Games"

It's a fairly niche genre that you probably aren't familiar with, but you might be getting targeted for advertising if you have some kind of search history for other strategy type games, or maybe you're getting targeted for frequenting video game websites period like this one.

I found this amusing. Mainly because Umbrella was a faction in Cybernations years ago, and they were part of the Citadel alliance with the faction that was almost entirely formed from fans from the Paradox forums (TOP).

It is a major franchise if you are into the style of game it is, or a paradox fan.

I would say if you hated 2, you probably won't like 3. It has a much better tutorial, but it is still a pretty steep learning curve and tutorial really only covers some basics, you need to play around with it a lot to start to pick up on more of the nuances. Sometimes you just need to push buttons and see what happens.
